How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Health & Safety Advisor

Location: Exeter, Devon / South West
    Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
Sector: Water / Utilities / Civil Engineering / Infrastructure

Safety Talent is recruiting a Health & Safety Advisor on behalf of a well-established UK infrastructure contractor delivering essential water and utilities projects across the South West.

This is a hands-on, site-based Health & Safety position supporting a major long-term water infrastructure contract.

You will work closely with operational teams and managers, providing practical Health & Safety advice and helping ensure projects are delivered safely and in line with both legislative requirements and company standards.

The role would particularly suit an experienced Health & Safety Advisor from a water, utilities, civil engineering or wider infrastructure background who enjoys being out on sites and working directly with operational teams.

    The role

As Health & Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for supporting sites across the contract and helping maintain and improve Health & Safety performance.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    *

Carrying out site inspections, Health & Safety audits and compliance monitoring

    *

Providing practical Health & Safety advice to site teams, supervisors and managers

    *

Supporting Health & Safety objectives and improvement plans across the contract

    *

Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses and helping identify root causes

    *

Making recommendations and following through on corrective actions

    *

Supporting project planning, tenders and bids with appropriate Health & Safety input

    *

Identifying opportunities to improve Health & Safety systems, processes and working practices

    *

Supporting behavioural safety initiatives and site safety tours

    *

Encouraging proactive hazard and near-miss reporting

    *

Sharing Health & Safety best practice across operational teams

    *

Building strong relationships with internal teams, clients and other stakeholders

This is not a purely compliance-driven or office-based position. The successful person will need to be comfortable spending time with operational teams, challenging unsafe practices where necessary and providing realistic solutions that allow work to be completed safely.

    What we're looking for

You will already have good experience working as a Health & Safety Advisor or in a similar Health & Safety position.

Experience within one or more of the following sectors would be particularly relevant:

    *

    Water

    *

    Utilities

    *

    Civil engineering

    *

    Infrastructure

    *

Construction involving significant site-based or utilities activity

You should have a good working knowledge of current UK Health & Safety legislation and be confident working independently across a busy operational environment.

    You will also need:

    *

NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent

    *

Tech IOSH membership or be working towards Graduate IOSH

    *

Previous site-based Health & Safety experience

    *

    Strong communication and influencing skills

    *

The confidence to engage with operational teams at all levels

    *

A practical, solutions-focused approach to Health & Safety

    *

    Full UK driving licence

    Package

    The position offers:

    *

    £42,000 - £46,000 basic salary

    *

    Pension

    *

    Healthcare

    *

    24-26 days annual leave

    *

    Employee benefits and retail discounts

    *

    Cycle to work scheme

    *

    Employee Assistance Programme

This is an opportunity to join a substantial UK infrastructure business working on essential water projects and to play a visible role in how Health & Safety is managed across the contract.
