How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Lecturer – Construction and Built Environment
    Salary: £36,217 – £43,197 per annum
    Hours: 37 hours per week
Specialism: Construction Management / Civil Engineering

Think FE is working with a well-established further education college looking to appoint a Lecturer in Construction and Built Environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction or civil engineering professional who wants to use their industry knowledge to support the next generation. You’ll teach across full-time, part-time and short courses while helping learners develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed for their future careers.

Previous teaching experience would be beneficial, but it is not essential. If you have strong industry experience and the ability to engage and motivate learners, the college is willing to support the right candidate towards an appropriate teaching qualification.
    The role
As Lecturer in Construction and Built Environment, you will:

Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging and inclusive teaching.
Teach learners across Construction Management, Civil Engineering and related built environment programmes.
Assess student work and provide constructive feedback.
Act as a course tutor, supporting learners with their progress, attendance and development.
Contribute to curriculum development in response to changing industry needs.
Take part in practical demonstrations and activities.
Support internal verification, auditing and wider quality processes.
Help maintain a positive, professional and safe learning environment.
Contribute to student recruitment activities, including careers events and college events.
Promote safeguarding, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion throughout your work.

Some evening and weekend working may occasionally be required to meet business needs.
    What we’re looking for
    You will ideally have:

A degree or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a closely related subject.
Relevant professional experience within Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
Knowledge and skills in one or more of the following areas:
    Civil Engineering
    Structural Engineering
    Quantity Surveying
    Land Surveying
GCSE Maths and English Language at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent.
Strong communication, organisation and IT skills.
The ability to inspire, motivate and engage learners.
A flexible and positive approach to your work.
A commitment to continued professional development.
A willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification if you do not already hold one.

Previous teaching or training experience within Construction Management or Civil Engineering would be advantageous, as would a relevant Level 6/7 or professional qualification.
The successful applicant will also be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check and demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
    Benefits
The college offers a strong benefits package, including:

44 days’ holiday including bank/public holidays
    Teachers’ Pension Scheme
    Health Cash Plan
    Enhanced maternity and paternity benefits
    Free on-site parking
    Discounted on-site gym membership
    Cycle to Work Scheme
    10% discount on college courses
    High street discounts
    Wellbeing programme
Opportunity for an annual volunteering day

    Right to work
Applicants will be required to provide evidence of their eligibility to work in the UK as part of the recruitment process. The college has advised that this position is unlikely to qualify for visa sponsorship, so applications requiring sponsorship cannot currently be considered.

Once you've applied, one of our friendly further education consultants will give you a call to discuss this opportunity.
