How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Director of Trading - Beers, Wines & Spirits

    Location: Central London
    Salary: £150,000 + performance-related bonus
    Hours: Monday to Friday

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a commercially driven Director of Trading to lead the Beers, Wines and Spirits category for one of the UK's largest and most established supermarket businesses.

This is a senior leadership position with genuine influence across the organisation. You will take ownership of a major, high-value category, shaping its commercial strategy, strengthening supplier partnerships and delivering sustainable growth across a diverse customer base.

The business is financially strong, highly ambitious and entering an exciting period of expansion. Continued investment, strategic acquisitions and the development of its nationwide supermarket operation are creating significant opportunities for growth. Despite its scale, the company retains an entrepreneurial culture where senior leaders are trusted to make decisions and drive change.

    The role

As Director of Trading, you will have full strategic and commercial responsibility for the Beers, Wines and Spirits category. You will lead the trading team while working closely with senior stakeholders across retail, operations, finance, marketing and supply chain.

    Key responsibilities will include:

Developing and delivering the overall BWS trading strategy

Taking ownership of category sales, margin, profitability and market share

Leading major negotiations with national and international suppliers

Building long-term, commercially valuable supplier partnerships

Identifying new product, brand and revenue opportunities

Creating compelling ranges, pricing strategies and promotional plans

Using market, competitor and customer insight to guide commercial decisions

Improving supplier income, commercial terms and promotional effectiveness

Leading, developing and motivating a high-performing trading team

Working with the executive leadership team to support wider business growth

Ensuring the category remains competitive and responsive to changing consumer trends

    About you

This opportunity would suit an established Trading Director, Commercial Director, Category Director or senior Head of Trading with substantial experience in Beers, Wines and Spirits.

    You will ideally demonstrate:

Senior-level trading or commercial experience within BWS

An excellent network across major drinks suppliers and brand owners

A strong record of delivering profitable category growth

Significant experience negotiating complex, high-value agreements

Full commercial ownership of sales, margin and profitability

The ability to develop and execute long-term trading strategies

Strong leadership experience across sizeable commercial or category teams

Excellent knowledge of the UK supermarket, grocery or convenience sectors

The confidence and credibility to influence executive-level stakeholders

A decisive, entrepreneurial and highly commercial leadership style

    Why consider this opportunity?

    Basic salary of £150,000

    Attractive performance-related bonus

    High-profile director-level appointment

Ownership of a strategically important and substantial category

Direct influence over commercial strategy and future growth

The opportunity to join a financially secure, expanding organisation

Significant investment in people, technology and infrastructure

Long-term career potential within a large, diversified business group

    Central London location

    Monday-to-Friday working

This is a rare opportunity to lead one of the most important trading categories within a major UK supermarket business. You will be joining at a pivotal stage of growth, with the backing, resources and autonomy required to make a significant commercial impact.
