How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Hays Education is working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in South Manchester to recruit an experienced and organised HR & Payroll Officer to join their administrative team on a full-time, term-time-only basis.
    This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with a strong HR and payroll administration background who is looking to play a key role in supporting the school's workforce and ensuring the smooth operation of payroll and personnel processes.

    As HR & Payroll Officer, you will provide administrative support across all aspects of payroll and human resources. Working closely with school leadership and the wider administration team, you will help ensure that employee records, payroll information and HR processes are managed accurately and efficiently.
    Key responsibilities include:

    Supporting the preparation and administration of payroll
    Maintaining accurate employee records and HR documentation
    Assisting with staff onboarding, contracts and employment paperwork
    Processing payroll changes, absences and contractual amendments
    Supporting recruitment and safer recruitment processes
    Monitoring staff attendance and maintaining HR databases
    Responding to payroll and HR queries from staff
    Ensuring compliance with school policies and employment legislation
    Providing general administrative support to the school's HR function
    The successful candidate will:

    Have previous experience in a HR administration, payroll administration or HR & Payroll Officer role
    Possess a good understanding of payroll processes and HR procedures
    Be highly organised with excellent attention to detail
    Have strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
    Be able to handle confidential information professionally and sensitively
    Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    Be capable of managing multiple priorities and working independentlyPrevious experience working within a school, academy or educational setting would be advantageous but is not essential.What the School Offers
