How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Payroll Officer

    Nottingham

    £33,782 - £37,709 per annum

Join NCHA and Make a Difference

At NCHA, we're committed to providing excellent services to our communities, and that starts with supporting our colleagues. We're looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Payroll Officer to join our Finance team and play a key role in delivering an accurate, efficient, and compliant payroll service across the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a payroll professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, solving complex payroll issues, and supporting continuous improvement while ensuring colleagues are paid accurately and on time.

As our Senior Payroll Officer, you will lead and support the delivery of end-to-end payroll services for the NCHA Group. You'll be responsible for ensuring payroll processes are accurate, compliant, and delivered within strict deadlines, while acting as a subject matter expert on payroll legislation, pensions, statutory payments, and taxation.

Working closely with colleagues across Finance, HR, and external providers, you'll help maintain robust payroll controls, support audits and reporting requirements, and contribute to ongoing system and process improvements.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Administer and maintain all NCHA Group payroll and pension systems and records, including colleague expenses, statutory payments, and absence-related payments.

    * Process payroll accurately and in accordance with current legislation, HMRC requirements, and organisational policies.

    * Operate and reconcile payroll control accounts, including net pay and pension accounts, ensuring completeness and accuracy.

    * Maintain accurate payroll records and perform regular reconciliations, taking corrective action where necessary.

    * Extract, analyse, and report on payroll and financial data to support organisational reporting requirements.

    * Support monthly, period-end, and year-end payroll activities, ensuring all statutory and regulatory deadlines are met.

    * Resolve complex payroll queries and discrepancies, providing expert advice and guidance to colleagues and stakeholders.

    * Assist in the preparation of statutory returns, financial reports, and audit requirements.

    * Support payroll system enhancements, process improvements, and the development of procedure manuals.

    * Monitor legislative changes and ensure compliance across all payroll activities.

    * Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

    * Provide support and cover across the wider Finance Directorate when required.

    About You

We're looking for an experienced payroll professional with strong end-to-end payroll expertise and a thorough understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, statutory payments, and HMRC requirements. You'll be confident managing complex payroll processes, resolving queries, and ensuring payroll is delivered accurately, on time, and in compliance with relevant legislation.

You'll have excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience using payroll systems and Excel to manage and report on payroll data. Able to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines, you'll take a proactive approach to identifying improvements and maintaining high standards of accuracy.

As a collaborative and supportive team member, you'll build positive relationships with colleagues across Finance, HR, and external organisations, providing expert advice and guidance when needed. Above all, you'll be professional, reliable, and committed to handling confidential information with discretion and integrity.

    Why Join NCHA?

At NCHA, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on creating a positive and supportive working environment where colleagues can thrive, develop, and make a real impact.

If you're an experienced payroll professional looking for your next challenge and want to join an organisation that values its people, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now and help us deliver an outstanding payroll service for NCHA colleagues.

This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Our core office hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm.
