How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Membership and Registrations Officer

If you have run a chartership or professional registration process before, you will already recognise most of this job. What you might not expect is that it is not a reactive one.

Unusually for an institute of their size, they hold their own Royal Charter alongside licences from three separate external regulators, so they award a wider spread of professional registrations than most bodies you will have come across. It makes the work more varied, and it means the person doing this job carries more of it than they would somewhere bigger.

They are looking for someone to own that work end to end.

    What the job involves

    • Running applications for their chartered and fellowship grades and their registrations, from first enquiry through to decision, at a standard that stands up to external review.
    • Owning the professional standards committees. Setting the agenda, running the meeting, writing it up, and making sure decisions turn into things that actually happen.
    • Recruiting, training and looking after the volunteer assessors and interviewers the whole process depends on.
    • Going out and encouraging people who are not yet members to begin their registration journey. This is the part that makes the role different from most. You would not simply be working through what lands in the inbox.
    • Holding the relationships with the external licensing bodies and preparing the organisation for their periodic reviews.
    • Looking honestly at how all of this is done, and changing the parts that do not work.

    What they need from you

    • Registration experience. Chartership, professional registration, accreditation or a comparable assessment process, run inside a professional body, institute, awarding organisation or regulator.
    • Confidence with senior people. Committees there run in parallel, so you would be holding one on your own fairly quickly. When something is not being done properly, you need to be comfortable saying so to people who have been doing it for years.
    • Governance instincts. Terms of reference, minutes, conflicts of interest, audit trails, and an understanding of why the process exists rather than just what the steps are. This is the part our client is clear they cannot teach quickly.
    • Real attention to detail, because somebody's career milestone sits inside every application.
    • Strong writing. Feedback letters and committee papers take up a good part of the week.

    Why this one

    • The role reports directly to a director, which is a short line at this level.
    • Broad enough that you would not be processing the same registration type over and over. Small enough that you would own it, rather than being one pair of hands on a production line.
    • This is not a stuffy institution. If your experience of professional bodies is that they are slow, hierarchical and set in their ways, this one is worth a conversation.
    • An explicit remit to improve the process, not just keep it running.
