Structures Inspector
Location: Beckton, London (with travel across Central London)
Job Role
Ringway Infrastructure Services is seeking an experienced Structures Inspector to support the inspection and management of highway structures across our Central London framework. This role offers a blend of site-based inspections and office-based technical reporting, ensuring the ongoing safety, performance and maintenance of bridges and other highway structures. The successful candidate will work across ten Central London boroughs, undertaking both General and Principal Inspections and providing detailed technical assessments of infrastructure assets.
The role is primarily based from our Beckton office, with the opportunity to work from our Park Lane office and utilise hybrid working arrangements where operationally appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out General Inspections (GI) and Principal Inspections (PI) of bridges and highway structures.
- Assess the condition of structures and identify defects, deterioration and maintenance requirements.
- Produce clear, accurate and detailed technical inspection reports.
- Review inspection findings and support asset management decisions.
- Undertake inspections across the Central London framework and associated highway networks.
- Work safely within live highway environments, including night-time inspections where required.
- Support emergency inspections and standby call-out activities when necessary
- Liaise with colleagues, stakeholders and operational teams to ensure inspection programmes are delivered effectively.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline. Alternatively, HNC/HND in Civil Engineering with additional relevant experience.
- Minimum three years' experience carrying out structures or bridge inspections for degree-qualified candidates.
- Minimum five years' relevant experience for HNC/HND-qualified candidates.
- Previous experience undertaking General and/or Principal Inspections of highway structures.
- Strong technical report writing and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage inspection workloads effectively.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Extensive experience of bridge inspection programmes within a highways environment.
- Knowledge and use of BridgeStation for asset condition reporting
- Additional bridge or structures inspection qualifications.
- Experience working on local authority or urban highway networks.
- Previous involvement in emergency response, standby or call-out activities.
- Knowledge of highway asset management and maintenance planning.
