How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Professional Support Lawyer & Knowledge Manager

    Location: Edinburgh

Firm: Leading Scottish Law Firm | Real Estate & Infrastructure

Salary: Competitive Salary + Excellent Benefits

    Type: Full-time | Permanent

    The Role

For a Scottish Real Estate lawyer who enjoys the technical side of the law but is looking for something beyond a traditional fee-earning role, this is an opportunity to use your expertise across both Professional Support and Knowledge Management.

The role sits within a highly regarded Property and Infrastructure division, supporting the Scottish Real Estate team with the knowledge, precedents, training and resources needed to deliver consistently high-quality client advice. You’ll work closely with experienced fee-earners, helping to identify and share useful knowledge, develop practical resources and ensure the team remains up to date with changes across the property landscape.

Alongside the PSL responsibilities, you’ll spend around two days per week working on wider Knowledge Management initiatives across the firm. This will involve working with the Head of Knowledge and Service Delivery, PSLs and knowledge champions across different practice and sector groups to develop the firm's knowledge strategy, improve how information is captured and shared, and support the roll-out and ongoing development of its knowledge systems.

There is plenty of scope to make the role your own, from developing precedents and supporting property training through to improving the firm's approach to knowledge management, contributing to learning and development and helping shape how technology and AI are used to support the firm's wider knowledge strategy.

This would suit a solicitor with strong Scottish Real Estate experience who enjoys research, technical legal work, knowledge sharing and developing others, and who would like to use their legal expertise in a broader, firm-wide capacity.

    The Work

    Professional Support Lawyer

    • Manage and maintain Scottish property knowledge resources, ensuring content remains accurate, relevant and accessible.
    • Identify and capture valuable knowledge and expertise from fee-earners and develop effective processes for sharing it across the team.
    • Draft, introduce and update precedents, guides, manuals and other practical resources.
    • Collect and maintain useful styles and examples of best practice.
    • Support the preparation and testing of automated property documentation.
    • Assist with property training sessions, trainee inductions and training for assistants and paralegals.
    • Support online client services and the set-up of relevant client accounts.
    • Liaise with Business Development and Marketing on relevant knowledge and content.
    • Help develop and maintain website articles and encourage the sharing of relevant property knowledge.

    Knowledge Management

    • Support the central Knowledge Management team with the roll-out and development of the firm's knowledge system.
    • Monitor usage, submissions and approval processes for precedents, know-how and other knowledge resources.
    • Improve the user experience, taxonomy and findability of information within the knowledge system.
    • Work with PSLs and knowledge champions across the firm to understand priorities and encourage effective knowledge management.
    • Organise and chair quarterly meetings of the firm's knowledge champions group.
    • Work with the Head of Knowledge and Service Delivery to identify and progress Knowledge Management priorities in line with the firm's wider business and AI strategies.
    • Represent Knowledge Management on the firm's Learning and Development committee.
    • Assist with CPD queries, training needs analysis and the organisation of relevant training programmes.

    Your Experience

    • Scottish Qualified Solicitor with solid experience in Scottish Real Estate.
    • Strong technical legal knowledge and an interest in keeping up to date with developments across the property sector.
    • Excellent drafting, research and written communication skills.
    • Comfortable developing precedents, guidance and other technical resources.
    • An interest in knowledge sharing, learning and development and supporting the wider team.
    • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
    • Confident working collaboratively with lawyers and wider business teams.
    • An interest in technology, legal innovation and the evolving role of AI within knowledge management would be advantageous.
    • Able to communicate complex information clearly and practically to different audiences.

    Why This Role?

    • Move away from a traditional fee-earning role while remaining closely connected to Scottish Real Estate.
    • Combine Professional Support Lawyer and Knowledge Management responsibilities within one role.
    • Work with a respected Scottish Real Estate and Infrastructure team.
    • Have genuine influence over the firm's knowledge resources, systems and processes.
    • Opportunity to contribute to the firm's wider AI and knowledge strategy.
    • Support training and development across trainees, assistants, paralegals and experienced lawyers.
    • Firm-wide exposure through collaboration with PSLs, knowledge champions and senior stakeholders.
    • Edinburgh-based role with an established and collaborative professional environment.
    • Competitive salary and benefits package.
