How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.

    Engineering Service Manager (Gas Suppression and Fire Safety)
    West Midlands based with National Travel
    Up to £52,000 plus Company Car, Pension and Company Benefits

    Bryland Fire is a specialist UK fire protection business providing the design, installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of life safety and fire protection systems.

    As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Fire Service Service Manager to lead our regional gas suppression service operation across the Midlands.

    This is a key leadership position within Bryland Fire. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and developing our engineering team, managing service delivery and planning, maintaining technical and compliance standards, and acting as the senior escalation point for customers.

    The role will have a direct impact on engineering quality, customer satisfaction, contract retention, operational efficiency and regional profitability.

    The Role
    The Bryland Fire Service Engineering Manager is responsible for daily oversight of the Engineering team, providing coaching and support to ensure that engineers are competent and confident in their role. The Supervisor will ensure staffing levels are maintained through management of annual leave and distribution of workload during periods of absence through sickness or annual leave within the team.

    Through training and coaching they will ensure operational excellence, identify training needs and putting in place appropriate actions. They will also oversee the individual performance of members of the team and provide first-line improvement plans where needed and prior to performance management escalation.

    Whilst the role oversees the Engineering team, the in-day management of service delivery, provided through the Service Engineers, is the responsibility of the Service Manager. As such, the resolution of matters such as callouts, Engineer performance and utilisation, customer service issues, and quality management lies with the Service Engineering Manager.

    Our Person
    We are looking for a technically credible and commercially aware service leader who understands the importance of gas suppression within the wider life safety environment.

    · You will be comfortable leading engineers, dealing directly with customers and working with senior management to resolve operational and technical challenges.

    · Be proactive, organised and decisive, with the ability to identify problems early and put effective corrective actions in place.

    · Lead by example, set high standards and create a culture where engineers take pride in delivering technically correct, compliant and professional work.

    Above all, you will take ownership of people, technical quality, compliance, customer confidence and service performance, helping Bryland Fire deliver an industry-leading gas suppression service across the Midlands

    Key Responsibilities

    Operational Management:

    · Lead the delivery of fire alarm servicing, maintenance, fault-finding, commissioning, and remedial works across customer sites.

    · Provide technical expertise and support to Fire Alarm Engineers on complex faults, system design issues, and compliance requirements.

    · Ensure all work is completed in accordance with BS 5839, industry regulations, company standards, and health and safety requirements.

    · Conduct site audits and quality inspections to ensure high standards of workmanship and documentation.

    · Support project teams with commissioning, upgrades, and system handovers where required

    · Manage, supervise, and support a team of Fire Alarm Engineers.

    · Assisting with the allocation of workloads, coordinate service schedules, and ensure effective resource planning to ensure BAFE performances are met.

    · Monitor engineer productivity, performance, and compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).

    · Conduct regular one-to-one meetings, performance reviews, and development discussions.

    · Mentor, coach, and develop engineers, apprentices, and trainees to enhance technical capability and career progression.

    · Identify training needs and ensure team members maintain relevant certifications and competencies

    Budgeting & Financial Management:

    · Support financial performance through overseeing the service delivery process to ensure works are completed as required and that accruals are recorded accurately where needed.

    · Provide input into financial analysis and reporting to understand and address underperformance of risk.

    People management:

    · Ensure the welfare of all members of the Engineering team.

    · Undertake coaching/training needs analysis and deliver or facilitate training or coaching actions as needed.

    · Complete Performance Reviews in line with company policy with all members of the team.

    · Hold regular 1:1s and team meetings with the teams to ensure engagement and address or identify issues.

    Colleague Relationships:

    · Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and colleagues, in particular Service engineers & Office Team, to maximise the quality of service and operational efficiencies of the service team.

    Customer Service:

    · Ensure that the team maintain a professional and high standard of customer care. Support the identification of the root cause of customer complaints or concerns and implement remedial actions and training/process improvements as needed.

    Essential Skills & Experience

    · Good customer service mindset and a focus on resolving issues and addressing concerns through continuous improvement.

    · excellent team management skills.

    · Collaborative approach, able to bring colleagues together to bring about positive outcomes for one another and for customers.

    · Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

    · An understanding of financial processes and the need to complete tasks to meet financial expectations.

    · Previous experience of leading a team of Engineers within the industry

    · Knowledge and experience of working in line with BS5839 Standards

    · Full Driving Licence.
