Associate Civil Engineer required to join an established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy as they continue to expand their Civil Engineering capability across the South West, Wales and Midlands.
This is a senior opportunity offering genuine scope to take ownership of a regional Civil Engineering function, combining technical delivery, project leadership, client development and team growth.
The successful candidate will initially remain technically involved in projects while working closely with senior management and the wider Business Development team to strengthen existing client relationships, develop new opportunities and grow a dedicated Civil Engineering team.
The role would suit an established Associate Civil Engineer or an experienced Principal Civil Engineer ready to progress into an Associate-level position.
Associate Civil Engineer Salary & Benefits
£65,000 - £75,000 salary, dependent upon experience

Associate Civil Engineer Job Overview
Lead and develop the Civil Engineering capability across the South West, Wales and Midlands
Scope projects and prepare fee proposals
Assist with business development activity to grow and diversify the Civil Engineering offering
Develop relationships with existing and prospective clients
Attend client meetings to establish project requirements and provide technical advice
Oversee Civil Engineering projects from concept through to implementation
Deliver and oversee drainage strategies, flood risk assessments and detailed drainage design
Manage associated development highways work, including Section 38 and Section 278 schemes
Develop appropriate technical solutions, reports and designs
Undertake site inspections and reviews
Review drawings, reports, surveys, testing information and other technical data
Identify and resolve technical and design issues
Manage project programmes, budgets and commercial performance
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required technical standard
Manage project teams and coordinate multidisciplinary project delivery
Maintain high technical standards in accordance with company procedures and Health & Safety requirements
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
Support the technical development of the wider business
Recruit and develop a dedicated Civil Engineering team as workload increases
Represent the consultancy externally with clients and other industry professionals
Associate Civil Engineer Job Requirements
Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
Significant UK consultancy experience within Civil Engineering
Strong background in development infrastructure and building-related Civil Engineering
Experience with drainage strategies and detailed drainage design
Knowledge of flood risk assessment
Experience with Section 38 and Section 278 infrastructure
Strong technical design and project management capability
Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
Good commercial awareness, including project budgets and fee proposals
Strong client-facing and relationship-building skills
Previous experience managing or mentoring engineers
Ability to provide technical leadership across complex projects
Business development experience advantageous, although candidates looking to develop this aspect of their career will also be considered
Chartered Engineer status advantageous but not essential
Existing Principal Civil Engineers looking to progress to Associate level are encouraged to apply
Existing relationships with developers, housebuilders or other regional clients would be highly advantageous
The Opportunity
This is not simply a project delivery position. The successful Associate Civil Engineer will have the opportunity to establish and grow a regional Civil Engineering team, with the backing of existing technical leadership and Civil Engineering resources elsewhere within the business.
The position therefore offers a strong route for an ambitious Principal or Associate Engineer who wants greater involvement in clients, commercial decisions, business development and ultimately building their own team, without having to start from scratch.
