How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Shift Engineer - Reading - £53,300 to £55,350 + Training, Progression & Long-Term Career Development

    Do you have at least 12 months' experience in a maintenance, engineering, production or manufacturing environment?

    Are you someone who enjoys getting hands-on with machinery, equipment and problem solving?

    Are you keen to build a long-term engineering career and continue developing your skills?

    Do you live within a reasonable commuting distance of Reading?

    If the answers are yes, we are hiring for a Shift Engineer on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business that is prepared to invest significantly in developing engineers who demonstrate the right attitude and appetite to learn.

    WHAT YOU NEED...

    Minimum 1 year's experience in an engineering, maintenance, production or manufacturing role

    Basic mechanical and/or electrical understanding

    A genuinely hands-on approach

    Strong work ethic and positive attitude

    Willingness to learn new equipment, systems and processes

    Commitment to working safely

    Ability to work as part of a shift team

    Reliable and professional approach to work

    Working within the site Engineering team to maximise equipment availability

    Supporting planned preventative maintenance activities

    Assisting with breakdown response and fault diagnosis

    Maintaining plant and production equipment

    Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement

    Ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard

    Developing site-specific engineering competencies through ongoing training

    Building technical knowledge with the support of experienced colleagues

    The Shift Pattern...

    4 On / 4 Off

    2 x Days: 07:00 to 19:00

    2 x Nights: 19:00 to 07:00

    4 Days Off
