How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

    HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / Plant Mechanic – Gatwick Airport

    Location: Gatwick Airport

    Salary: £49,000 – £51,547 Basic +excellent benefits

    We are currently recruiting for two experienced HGV Technicians, HGV Mechanics or Plant Mechanics to join a growing engineering team at Gatwick Airport.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanic looking to develop their career within the specialist world of Ground Support Equipment (GSE).

    Previous GSE experience is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

    Candidates with experience working on HGVs, commercial vehicles, plant, heavy vehicles or similar equipment are encouraged to apply.

    The Two Positions

    Position 1 – Monday to Friday

    £49,000 – £50,000 per annum

    45 hours per week

    Monday to Friday with flexibility around working hours.

    This position is ideal for a technician looking for a traditional Monday-to-Friday working pattern while gaining specialist experience working on airport Ground Support Equipment.

    Position 2 – 4 On / 4 Off

    Salary: £51,547 Basic

    4 days on / 4 days off

    This position is ideal for a technician who prefers a structured shift pattern and an excellent work-life balance.

    Both positions are permanent, full-time roles based at Gatwick Airport.

    HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / Plant Mechanic -The Role

    As an HGV / GSE / Plant Technician, you will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, fault-finding and repair of a wide range of specialist Ground Support Equipment used airside at Gatwick Airport.

    You will use your existing mechanical knowledge to diagnose faults, carry out repairs and complete preventative maintenance to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable and operational.

    Equipment may include:

    Aircraft towing tractors and tugs

    Baggage handling equipment

    Baggage elevators

    Specialist airport vehicles

    Ground Support Equipment

    Other heavy and specialist vehicles

    Full training will be provided to develop your knowledge and skills in GSE.

    HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / Plant Mechanic - Key Responsibilities

    Service, maintain and repair Ground Support Equipment.

    Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out effective repairs.

    Complete planned and preventative maintenance (PPM).

    Carry out mechanical and electrical maintenance.

    Respond to breakdowns and diagnose faults.

    Complete maintenance records and paperwork accurately.

    Ensure all work is completed safely and to the required standards.

    Maintain equipment reliability and minimise downtime.

    Liaise with internal customers and colleagues.

    Comply with all Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.

    Provide a professional and high-quality engineering service.

    Assist with general maintenance and repair duties as required.

    HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / Plant Mechanic -About You

    We are looking for experienced technicians from a mechanical background.

    You must have experience in at least one of the following:

    HGV

    Plant

    GSE / Ground Support Equipment

    Commercial vehicles

    Heavy vehicles

    Agricultural or specialist equipment

    Suitable job backgrounds include:

    HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Plant Mechanic, GSE Technician, Heavy Vehicle Technician, Commercial Vehicle Technician, Agricultural Technician or Vehicle Mechanic.

    You should have:

    Strong mechanical maintenance and repair experience.

    Good mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

    A practical, hands-on approach.

    Experience working on heavy vehicles, plant or similar equipment.

    The ability to work safely and professionally.

    Good attention to detail.

    The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    GSE experience is desirable but not essential. Full GSE training will be provided for the right candidate.
