How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Opportunity

    We're seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to join a leading organisation operating within high-hazard industrial environments across the UK.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a safety-focused engineering professional who is passionate about preventing major incidents, driving continuous improvement, and supporting operational excellence. Working closely with engineering, operations and leadership teams, you'll play a key role in ensuring process safety compliance and supporting safe, reliable operations across multiple sites.

    The role offers a high level of autonomy, varied technical challenges, and the opportunity to influence process safety strategy across a nationwide operation.

    Key Responsibilities

    As the Process Safety Engineer, you will:

    Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL and LOPA studies.
    Identify process safety risks and develop effective mitigation strategies across operational sites.
    Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards including COMAH, DSEAR and ATEX.
    Conduct process safety audits and technical reviews across multiple locations.
    Review P&IDs, PFDs, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and engineering modifications.
    Investigate process safety incidents and near misses, carrying out root cause analysis and recommending preventative actions.
    Provide technical guidance on emergency response planning, risk reduction and process safety best practice.
    Develop and monitor Process Safety Performance Indicators (PSPIs).
    Promote and embed a positive process safety culture throughout the business.This position will involve regular travel across operational sites within the UK.

    About You

    You'll have:

    A degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
    At least five years' experience in a design, technical or operational engineering role within the chemical, oil & gas, manufacturing or other high-hazard industries.
    Previous experience working at Upper Tier COMAH sites.
    Strong knowledge of process safety principles, hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies.
    Hands-on experience facilitating HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, PHR and/or SIL studies.
    Experience auditing safety management systems and supporting regulatory compliance.
    Good understanding of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
    Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
    The ability to work independently whilst managing multiple priorities.
    Strong report writing and IT skills.Desirable
    Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards accreditation.
    Formal auditing qualification.
    Experience within the LPG, chemical processing or oil & gas sectors.
    Knowledge of Human Factors and Human Reliability.
    Experience working within manufacturing or other major hazard industries.
