How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Mechanical Estimating Manager | New regional office | Competitive salary + package

You've priced enough jobs for other people's empire. Fancy building your own?

Most estimating roles ask you to fit into a department that's already been built — someone else's processes, someone else's way of doing things, someone else's team.

This one's different. The company is opening a brand-new office and you'd be one of the first names on the door — with the scope to shape how mechanical estimating gets done here, not just follow the playbook from HQ.

    Is this you?

You're a time-served plumber or you've built up serious mechanical estimating experience the hard way. You can read a set of mechanical drawings and know, almost instinctively, what it's really going to cost. You've probably felt boxed in lately — ticking along in someone else's system when you know you could be running the show. If any of that sounds familiar, keep reading.

What you'll be doing (and why you'll enjoy it)

You'll take tenders from the moment they land right through to handover — no more, no less than yours to own. That means:

    * Detailed mechanical take-offs across cost plans, design & build, and fully-designed projects

    * Working directly with sub-contractors, vendors and suppliers to build tenders that win

    * Spotting value-engineering options and flagging risk before it becomes a problem

    * Building the client relationships that turn a one-off job into repeat business

Because you're building this office from the ground up, you're not inheriting anyone else's bad habits or legacy spreadsheets. You get to set the standard.

    Where you'll be doing it

This firm has been in the MEP game for sixty years — now a second-generation family business with offices across the UK and Ireland, over 100 people on the payroll and another 300 sub-contractors working alongside them. They've delivered major projects across Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Heritage, Hospitality & Leisure, Life Sciences and Residential — the kind of track record that makes a good pitch to a client, not just a line on a website.

This new office is the next chapter. You'd be writing an early page of it.

    What you'll need

    * Time-served plumber (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) or genuine industry experience to match

    * Solid mechanical technical knowledge you can back up on the drawings, not just on paper

    * The organisation to run your own tenders and the confidence to work under pressure

If you've also got a few years in a similar estimating seat, or you know your way around Excel or Trimble (Amtech), even better — but if you've got the core experience and the drive to build something, don't rule yourself out over a "nice to have" as there are opportunity for intermediate or senior estimators too.

    What's in it for you

Competitive salary, pension scheme, private healthcare, hybrid working, free parking, genuine personal development, and a business that backs its people to actually build things — including, in this case, an office.

    What next?

You don't need a polished CV sitting ready to go. If that's not where you're at right now, just send over what you've got, or message me directly and we'll have a proper conversation first
