How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Design Manager – Tier 1 Main Contractor

    Location: London / Site Based

    Salary: £65k - £80k + £6k car allowance + Pension + Healthcare + Life Assurance x3

Sector: Residential | PBSA | DfE Education

Based in London, you’ll be working across major London projects within Residential, PBSA (Purpose-Built Student Accommodation) and DfE Schools.

The working split depends on the stage of the project, but will typically involve around 3 days from the London office and 2 days on site, moving more site-based as projects progress.

    The Role

You’ll take responsibility for managing and coordinating the design process from pre-construction through to delivery, working closely with consultants, subcontractors and the wider project team.

    Key responsibilities will include:

Managing the design programme and ensuring information is delivered in line with the construction programme

Coordinating architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants and specialist subcontractors

Leading design team meetings and workshops

Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical submissions

Identifying design risks, buildability issues and opportunities for value engineering

    Managing RFIs and design changes

Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, client requirements and project specifications

Working closely with the commercial and construction teams throughout delivery

    The Candidate

This would suit an existing Design Manager or a strong Assistant Design Manager / Senior Design Coordinator ready to step up.

You’ll ideally have experience working for a main contractor on new-build projects within residential, student accommodation, education or similar major building projects.

Experience managing projects through multiple RIBA stages and coordinating structural, architectural and MEP design packages would be particularly relevant.

    Why Apply

This is an opportunity to join an established Tier 1 contractor with a strong London pipeline and exposure to significant projects across several sectors.

There is a clear opportunity to progress within the design function while working alongside experienced pre-construction, commercial and operational teams.
