We’re recruiting for an experienced Commercial Project Manager to provide commercial and financial oversight across a portfolio of complex UK projects for a leading engineering and technology business.
Working closely with Project Management, Commercial, Procurement, Operations and Finance, you’ll provide the financial insight and commercial challenge needed to drive project performance, profitability and cash generation.
The role would suit someone with a strong background in project finance, commercial finance or project controls, ideally within an engineering, automation, manufacturing, construction or logistics environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide commercial and financial oversight across projects from initiation through to completion
Lead project forecasting and Estimate at Completion (EAC)
Monitor revenue, costs, gross margin, profitability and cash flow
Identify financial variances, risks and opportunities
Act as a trusted business partner to Project Managers and Project Directors
Assess the financial impact of variations, change orders, claims and additional scope
Support project recovery plans, contract discussions and key commercial decisions
Monitor project billing and cash flow, supporting improved cash conversion
Provide accurate project performance reporting and financial commentary
Work closely with Commercial, Procurement, Operations and Finance teams
Support continuous improvement across project commercial management and reporting
Requirements
Part-qualified accountant or equivalent relevant experience
Strong experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project financial performance
Excellent Excel and analytical skills
Experience using ERP systems, ideally SAP
Strong business partnering and stakeholder management skills
Confident influencing and constructively challenging project teams
Strong problem-solving and commercial judgement
Desirable Experience
Background in engineering, automation, manufacturing, construction or logistics
Experience managing complex or high-value projects
Customer contracts, variations, claims and change control
Project accounting and revenue recognition
ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent qualification/study
Experience working within a project-based environment
