How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

SEN Learning Support Assistant – SLD Specialist Setting

    Location: Hertfordshire
Salary: £90–£102 per day, dependent on experience and qualifications
    Contract: Full-time, Long-term, Temporary
    Start Date: 28 September 2026

Teach Now is looking for a caring and committed SEN Learning Support Assistant – SLD Specialist Setting to join a specialist primary school in Hertfordshire.

The school supports a large cohort of pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), alongside children with autism, communication needs, sensory differences and other additional needs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build meaningful experience in specialist education and make a genuine difference to childrens everyday development.

    The role

As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils with their individual learning, communication, social development and independence.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Providing 1:1, small-group and classroom support.
    • Helping pupils access individualised learning activities.
    • Supporting communication using visual or alternative strategies where required.
    • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
    • Supporting sensory needs, emotional regulation and transitions.
    • Building secure and trusting relationships with pupils.
    • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals.
    • Supporting personal care where this forms part of an individual pupil plan.

    About you

We are looking for someone who is:

    • Patient, kind and genuinely passionate about working with children.
    • Calm and resilient when supporting pupils with complex needs.
    • Reliable, positive and able to provide consistency.
    • Comfortable adapting their approach to different pupils.
    • A strong team player who is willing to learn.
    • Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.

Previous experience within an SLD, SEN, autism, care or specialist setting would be advantageous, but candidates with the right attitude and transferable experience are also encouraged to apply.

What the school and role can offer

    • A supportive specialist environment where children are at the centre of everything.
    • Experience working with SLD, autism, sensory and communication needs.
    • Access to specialist resources and facilities, including sensory and outdoor learning spaces.
    • Support from experienced teachers and SEN professionals.
    • The opportunity to develop valuable specialist education skills.
    • Potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.
    • £90–£102 per day, dependent on experience and qualifications.
For this school, progress is not measured in one way. Helping a pupil communicate a need, join an activity, develop independence or grow in confidence can be a major achievement — and as an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will play an important part in making those moments possible.
