How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Civil Engineer (Structural)

Location: Bristol / UK-based (Supporting Nuclear New Build Programmes)

    Job Type: Full-time

Security Clearance: UK Background Check / Vetting Required (Visa Sponsorship is Available)

    About the Client:

Our client is a highly respected nuclear services and engineering consultation specialist supporting major energy, defense, and civil infrastructure programmes across the UK. Known for delivering expert technical safety, radiation protection, and engineering solutions, they partner closely with Tier 1 nuclear developers to deliver complex infrastructure projects.

They offer a collaborative working environment where senior engineers are supported with continuous professional development, ongoing technical exposure to flagship energy projects, and competitive remuneration.

    About the Opportunity:

This senior-level role supports the Civil Engineering division responsible for the replication design strategy transitioning from Hinkley Point C (HPC) to Sizewell C (SZC). Operating under the nuclear island design framework, the Level 3 Civil Engineer will act as a Technical Lead for the main civil contract (SZ2201), assisting the Civil Engineering Lead (CEL) across both Pre-SOC and Post-SOC delivery phases.

You will play a pivotal technical and contractual leadership role-overseeing technical specifications, conducting engineering surveillance, managing contractor technical queries (TQs), and ensuring civil design deliverables meet strict UK nuclear standards.

    Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Civil Design Support

Design & Technical Oversight: Provide expert technical support on building-specific civil engineering topics, requiring deep knowledge of civil design. Produce key deliverables, review internal/external technical documents, and lead technical alignment meetings.

Specification Review & Surveillance: Assist the Civil Engineering Lead (CEL) with technical specification reviews and establish comprehensive technical surveillance programmes, including annual surveillance reporting.

Lessons Learnt: Drive continuous improvement by embedding lessons learnt from HPC and previous nuclear projects into SZ2201 contract activities.

    Contract Management & Stakeholder Interface

Contractor Compliance: Ensure all technical specifications and standards are strictly adhered to by the contract holder.

Technical Queries (TQs): Lead the resolution of complex technical queries, design changes, and contractual clarifications submitted by contractors.

Tool & Process Development: Develop and refine contract management tools to optimize technical surveillance and project workflow efficiency.

Client & Entity Liaison: Act as the primary technical bridge, liaising across various client entities, delivery teams, and external stakeholders.

    Candidate Profile:

    Experience & Level

Experience Range: Minimum 10 years of post-graduate experience in civil design engineering within complex, heavy civil or regulated infrastructure projects.

Nuclear Industry Exposure: Experience within the nuclear sector (particularly familiarity with UK nuclear project design sequences or HPC civil scopes) is highly desirable.

    Qualifications & Technical Knowledge

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).

Codes & Standards: Strong knowledge and understanding of civil engineering structures, CW codes/standards, and soil geotechnics studies.

Health & Safety: Comprehensive understanding of relevant UK Health & Safety regulations (e.g., HSWA 1974, CDM 2015).

    Key Competencies

Technical Leadership: Ability to manage contractor technical surveillance, resolve complex civil engineering challenges, and guide junior technical teams.

Contractual Acumen: Skilled in leading contractual discussions, handling technical queries, and ensuring compliance from Tier 1 contractors
