How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Independent Forgings and Alloys, one of Europe's leading precision forging companies, is looking to recruit a Forge Operative to join its Sheffield-based Press Forge team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and highly respected organisation, working within a busy manufacturing environment and supporting the production of high-quality forged products for a range of demanding customer requirements.

    Independent Forgings and Alloys Ltd (IFA) sits uniquely as the only single sited forge with open-die radial, press, hammer & ring rolling AND closed-die extrusion, drop stamp and blade forging in the world. Through our extensive forging capabilities and processes, we offer a fully integrated metals service centre: from ingot/billet and forging through to fully tested and released machined products.

    Job Vacancy

    As the Forge Operative, you will be based at the Sheffield manufacturing site within the Press Forge department, supporting the operation of a 1500T hydraulic press forge. You will play an important role in the manufacture of forged products, ensuring they are produced in accordance with customer specifications, production schedules, quality standards and company health, safety and environmental requirements.

    Working alongside manipulators, furnaces and ancillary equipment, you will support the day-to-day forging operation while maintaining material identity and traceability throughout the production process. You will also assist with tooling changes, press set-up and equipment preparation, while contributing to efficient workflow, waste reduction and continuous improvement activities.

    Key Responsibilities

    Operate and support the 1500T hydraulic press forge to manufacture products to specified dimensions, tolerances and customer requirements.
    Work in conjunction with manipulators, furnaces and ancillary equipment to support efficient forging operations.
    Maintain material identity and full traceability throughout the production process.
    Minimise waste, rework and scrap through effective process control.
    Assist with tooling changes, press set-up and equipment preparation.
    Support efficient workflow and continuous improvement initiatives.
    Ensure production activities are completed in line with required production schedules and quality standards.
    Comply with all company health, safety and environmental procedures.
    Wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
    Report hazards, accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly.
    Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace organisation.
    Participate in safety briefings, risk assessments and toolbox talks.Qualifications and Experience

    Previous experience within a forging, heavy engineering or manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
    Experience of working with heavy industrial machinery or press equipment would be beneficial.
    Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
    Ability to follow production processes, customer specifications and quality standards.
    Strong attention to detail, particularly around product quality and material traceability.
    Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a production team.
    A proactive approach with a willingness to support continuous improvement and maintain high standards of housekeeping.Salary Information

    This is a fantastic Forge Operative position, paying £17.50 to £21.54 per hour, based on a 35-hour working week, and located in Sheffield. The role operates on an alternating weekly morning and afternoon shift pattern and offers the opportunity to join an established and highly respected forging business.
