A welcoming, community-focused school in the Walton-le-Dale area of Preston is seeking a dedicated, patient, and proactive 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their support team.
In this role, you will work closely with an individual pupil who requires targeted learning, emotional regulation, and communication support throughout the school day. Working directly alongside the class teacher and SENDCO, you will provide a consistent, structured, and nurturing environment to help the pupil access the curriculum and thrive in class.
Key Responsibilities
Provide consistent 1:1 academic, emotional, and social support to an individual pupil inside and outside the classroom.
Implement individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, adapting classroom tasks into accessible, bite-sized activities.
Support positive behaviour management, identifying triggers early and applying calm de-escalation techniques.
Facilitate sensory breaks, gross/fine motor activities, and play-based regulation sessions.
Encourage independence, confidence, and positive peer interaction during learning and unstructured break times.
Maintain clear daily logs and provide constructive feedback to the class teacher, SENDCO, and parents/carers.
Uphold the school's safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: Previous experience working with children in a primary, specialist, or nursery setting, with a background supporting SEND (e.g., ASC, ADHD, speech and language delays, or SEMH) highly advantageous.
Qualifications: Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., CACHE, NVQ) is desirable, but enthusiastic candidates with transferable support, care, or coaching experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Qualities: Reliable, empathetic, patient, and able to build positive trust with children who need extra reassurance.
Vetting: Must hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to process a new check) and provide at least two recent professional references.
