The Opportunity
An established London contractor is looking for a Construction Quality Manager to oversee build quality across its projects.
This is a hands-on construction role, not a systems or paperwork-based quality position. You will regularly visit sites to check that work is being built correctly, using the right materials and in line with drawings, specifications and regulations.
The company delivers civil engineering, new build, refurbishment, fit-out and M&E projects. This role could suit an experienced Quality Manager, Clerk of Works, Project Manager or Site Manager with broad construction knowledge and a strong eye for detail.
The Role
You will work with site teams to prevent defects, solve quality issues and improve standards across the business.
Responsibilities will include:
Visiting projects regularly to inspect the quality of completed and ongoing work
Checking that work matches the approved drawings and specifications
Making sure the correct materials and products are being used
Inspecting civil engineering, structural, building, fit-out and M&E works
Helping project teams prepare Project Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans
Making sure important inspections are completed at the correct stages
Identifying poor workmanship, defects and work that does not meet the required standard
Producing clear reports explaining what needs to be corrected
Checking that defects and quality issues are properly resolved
Making sure inspection records, photographs and test certificates are complete
Keeping project quality documents organised and correctly stored on SharePoint
Identifying repeated problems and helping teams prevent them on future projects
Providing practical quality guidance and training to project teams
Producing monthly quality reports for the senior management team
Raising serious quality concerns with the Operations Directors About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
Experience as a Construction Quality Manager, Clerk of Works, Project Manager, Site Manager or similar
Broad experience across civil engineering, building, refurbishment, fit-out and M&E works
A strong understanding of how construction work should be built and inspected
The ability to read and understand drawings, specifications and technical information
Experience of Project Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans
A practical approach focused on preventing defects
Confidence to challenge work that does not meet the required standard
Strong communication and report-writing skills
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and SharePoint
The flexibility to travel between projects across London Construction qualifications would be useful, but strong practical experience is more important.
