How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Network Change Engineer

    Location: Waterloo, London – Nights – Sunday to Thursday
    Grade: Level 5
    Contract: Contract opportunity

    Working Environment: Rail / Telecommunications

    We are currently recruiting for a Network Change Engineer to support the delivery and ongoing management of critical radio and transmission networks within the London Underground environment.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a background in TETRA radio, transmission systems, network management or operational service delivery, looking to work on technically complex rail telecommunications infrastructure.

    The Role

    As a Network Change Engineer, you will be responsible for provisioning, modifying and removing network services, as well as supporting software and firmware updates across systems managed by the Service Centre.

    You will play an important role in ensuring network changes are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with agreed configuration management and change control processes.

    Key Responsibilities

    Provision, alter and remove services across managed radio and transmission systems.
    Implement agreed software and firmware updates.
    Carry out network management activities and routines.
    Support Change, Release and Implementation Management, working from the Network Management Centre (NMC) or on site.
    Support fault-finding, system testing and Problem Management activities.
    Maintain accurate configuration records and ensure system databases reflect the as-installed condition.
    Produce configuration status reports, work reports and technical documentation.
    Work closely with Service Desk teams to communicate planned and future network changes.
    Liaise with third-party suppliers to minimise network disruption and prevent future failures.
    Coordinate and supervise work groups during planned works and faulting activities where required.
    Provide technical support and peer training across configurable equipment.
    Follow established configuration management, safety and operational procedures.
    Support the ongoing development and maintenance of network and asset records.
    Provide on-call support when required.
    Experience & Technical Skills

    We are looking for candidates with:

    Previous experience working within an NMC / Network Management Centre environment.
    Proven experience working with radio and transmission systems.
    Significant experience within an Operational Service Delivery or Projects environment.
    Knowledge of Transmission Systems, including PDH, SDH, MPLS and IP, and the supporting management systems.
    Knowledge and experience of some of the following equipment or equivalent technologies is essential:

    Marconi SMAs
    MV36 / MV38 management platforms
    Ericsson MPLS/TP
    Nokia PDH (DN2, ACM2)
    NMS100
    Nokia Synfonet
    Keymile XMP / SOX management platform
    Nokia MPLS

    Knowledge of TETRA radio systems and the supporting management systems.
    Good understanding of configuration control and configuration management processes.
    Experience of system testing and fault-finding.
    Knowledge of operating systems and application software.
    Ability to use a range of IT tools and work with system databases.
    Ability to understand PCB/PCC layouts.
    Ability to produce clear technical reports and documentation.
    Ability to read, understand and write procedural, technical and safety documentation.
    A good understanding of Health & Safety within a rail environment.
