How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Male SEMH Teaching Assistant - Specialist School

    Are you a resilient, confident and motivated Teaching Assistant who enjoys working with young people and making a real difference?

    We are currently recruiting for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Wandsworth, supporting secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

    This is an ideal opportunity for someone who can build strong relationships with young people, confidently manage challenging behaviour and act as a positive male role model within the school environment.

    You may have a background in education, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, care, support work, residential settings or the wider education sector. Most importantly, you will be someone who is patient, consistent and able to remain calm when faced with challenging situations.

    The Role

    As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

    Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils.
    Build positive and trusting relationships with students who may have experienced difficulties in education or at home.
    Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience and social development.
    Manage challenging behaviour using positive and consistent behaviour strategies.
    Encourage students to engage with learning and develop greater independence.
    Provide support both inside and outside of the classroom.
    Act as a positive male role model and trusted adult for students.
    Support pupils during lessons, break times, interventions and wider school activities.
    Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and other professionals to support individual pupils.
    Help create a calm, structured and supportive environment where students feel safe and able to succeed.

    Who We're Looking For

    We're particularly interested in candidates who have:

    Experience working with children or young people.
    Experience supporting young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs is highly desirable.
    A confident and calm approach to behaviour management.
    The resilience to work in a demanding but highly rewarding environment.
    Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
    A patient, consistent and empathetic approach.
    The ability to establish boundaries while maintaining positive relationships.
    A background in youth work, sports, mentoring, education, care, support work, psychology or similar would be beneficial.You don't necessarily need previous experience as a Teaching Assistant. If you have strong experience working with young people and feel you could positively influence students who need additional support, we would be keen to hear from you.
