How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Business Intelligence Data Engineer (CYPE)

    Location: Croydon, South London (CR0 1EA), Hybrid Working - 2 days office / 3 days remote

    Daily rate: £590 per day Umbrella

    Contract Length: 6 -month contract (possibility of extension)

    Working Pattern: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 36 hours

    As part of an ambitious transformation and improvement programme, a Local Authority based in Croydon are seeking a talented Business Intelligence Data Engineer to join their growing Business Intelligence team. This is a unique opportunity to use your technical expertise to develop data solutions that directly support frontline services, operational managers and senior leaders.

    About the Role

    Working closely with the Business Intelligence Strategic Lead, transformation teams, service managers and technical colleagues, you will play a key role in the ongoing development of our Microsoft Azure-based Business Intelligence platform.

    You will help design, build and maintain robust data pipelines, corporate data models and Power BI datasets that bring together information from multiple source systems. Your work will support the delivery of accurate, accessible and actionable intelligence that helps shape services across CYPE.

    You will also contribute to the development of dashboards and reporting solutions that enable colleagues across the directorate to better understand demand, performance, costs and outcomes, while supporting greater self-service use of data.

    Key Responsibilities

    Develop, maintain and enhance data solutions within the Council's Azure-hosted BI platform.
    Design and implement scalable ELT processes to ingest and transform data from multiple systems.
    Build and maintain robust data models and datasets to support reporting and analytics.
    Support the development of Power BI dashboards and self-service reporting capabilities.
    Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate requirements into technical solutions.
    Ensure data quality, governance, security and performance standards are maintained.
    Support transformation and improvement programmes through the delivery of meaningful data insights.
    Contribute to the continuous improvement of Business Intelligence practices, standards and processes.

    Our Technology Stack

    You will work with a modern Microsoft data platform including:

    Azure Data Factory
    Azure Data Lake Gen2
    Azure SQL Database / SQL Server
    Microsoft Power BI
    Tabular Models
    T-SQL
    PowerShell
    Azure Cloud ServicesExperience with the following would be advantageous:

    Synapse Analytics
    Databricks
    Python
    Master Data Management (MDM)

    About You

    We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with excellent stakeholder engagement skills.

    You will have:

    Proven experience delivering data and Business Intelligence solutions within a Microsoft data environment.
    Strong knowledge of modern data warehousing principles and data modelling techniques.
    Experience working with large and complex datasets from multiple sources.
    Expertise in Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake and Azure SQL technologies.
    Strong Power BI and data visualisation experience.
    Advanced SQL and data transformation skills.
    Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
    The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
    Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders to develop practical data solutions.

    Experience within local government, education, children's services or public sector environments would be beneficial, although this is not essential.
