How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Engineer – Civil Engineering (Sizewell C, Leiston, Suffolk)

    Location: Old Oak Common HS2

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer to join our team at Old Oak Common HS2

    As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the engineering aspects of a project, ensuring that works are constructed in accordance with the contract drawings, specifications, procedures, and plans. You will also manage site and trainee engineers, ensuring all work meets the required standards and deadlines.

    To be considered, you will have a strong background in construction or civil engineering, with experience in a Senior Engineer role within a civil engineering highways environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    *

    Engineering Management:

    * Manage the engineering aspects of the project, ensuring compliance with contract drawings, specifications, procedures, and plans.

    * Supervise site engineers and trainee engineers, ensuring they are effectively contributing to the project.

    * Oversee general civil engineering works within a highways environment, including site clearance, drainage, service ducts, earthworks, pavements, kerbs & footways, and street lighting.

    *

    Health, Safety, and Environment:

    * Write/check RAMS and TBS, communicate them to the workforce, and monitor compliance.

    * Contribute to the achievement of safety targets and ensure zero tolerance of unsafe working practices.

    * Implement site systems and controls consistent with company and project standards, including health, safety, and quality systems.

    * Ensure that permits issued by the principal contractor are received in a timely manner for works to proceed.

    *

    Programme and Progress:

    * Review short-term lookahead programmes and report on site progress.

    * Identify and report any site issues that may delay the programme or progress.

    * Assist in preventing, identifying, and resolving issues on site that could impact the project schedule.

    *

    Design and Design Assurance:

    * Familiarise yourself with design drawings, specifications, and setting out requirements to ensure accurate construction.

    * Work with the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) to identify temporary works requirements, produce design briefs, and communicate temporary works designs to the site team.

    * Raise Material Approval Records (MARs) and procure materials in line with the project programme.

    * Review drawings and specifications, identify issues, and raise queries as necessary.

    *

    Quality Management:

    * Write/check ITPs, communicate them to the workforce, and ensure the process is followed.

    * Maintain organised and accurate QA records in accordance with ITPs and project requirements.

    * Lead the documentation, tracking, and closure of NCRs and defects, sharing lessons learned to avoid recurrence.

    * Compile quality handover documentation and conduct readiness reviews, capturing lessons learned and implementing improvements.

    Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:

    Previous experience as a Senior Engineer (or similar) with a civil engineering contractor.

    Experience in general civil engineering works within a highways environment, including site clearance, drainage, service ducts, earthworks, pavements, kerbs & footways, and street lighting.

    Good knowledge of CDM regulations and temporary works.

    Strong knowledge of specifications and testing regimes relevant to civil engineering and highway works.

    Commercially aware with experience working in a cost-conscious environment.

    Good communication, team management, and leadership skills.

    Proficient in using BIM software such as Fieldview, Dalux (or similar), and design software like AutoCAD, Autodesk, or SketchUp (desirable).

    Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent.

    Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers or working towards (desirable).

    IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS.

    Valid CSCS card.

    Full UK driving licence.
