We are recruiting for an experienced Multi-Skilled Engineer to join a professional Facilities Management team supporting a large industrial site in Peterborough.

⚙️ This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer with a strong mechanical background and good working knowledge of electrical systems. The role is predominantly mechanical, with electrical duties focused mainly on initial fault finding, diagnostics, basic repairs and minor corrective works.

🏭 Working within a busy industrial environment, you will play an important role in ensuring essential building services, mechanical plant, infrastructure and site systems remain safe, reliable, compliant and operational.

🔧 The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding and repairs across a range of mechanical plant and building services, including pumps, water heaters, boilers and associated water systems.

💧 The role will also involve supporting water hygiene and water management activities, including monitoring and taking readings from cooling towers. Legionella management is ultimately overseen by the client, but the engineering team plays an important role in supporting the site's wider water management programme.

🔧 Responsibilities & Duties

• 🛠️ Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across the site.

• ⚙️ Maintain, inspect and repair a range of mechanical plant, equipment and building services.

• 🔍 Diagnose mechanical faults and undertake effective repairs to minimise downtime and disruption.

• 🧠 Carry out fault finding, troubleshooting and basic root cause investigations.

• 💧 Maintain and troubleshoot pumps, motors, valves and associated mechanical equipment.

• 🔥 Maintain and troubleshoot boilers, water heaters and associated heating systems.

• 🚨 Respond promptly to breakdowns, defects and reactive maintenance requests.

• 🔧 Undertake mechanical repairs and corrective maintenance as required.

• ⚡ Carry out initial electrical fault finding and triage activities.

• 🔌 Undertake straightforward electrical repairs and minor corrective works where appropriately qualified and competent.

• 🧰 Identify electrical issues requiring significant modification or alteration and escalate to the appropriate specialist/client team.

• 💦 Support water hygiene and water management activities across the site.

• 🌡️ Take and record relevant readings from cooling towers and associated water systems.

• 📋 Support the wider site water management programme and ensure monitoring activities are completed accurately.

• 📅 Ensure planned maintenance tasks are completed within agreed timescales and to the required standards.

• 🦺 Ensure all works are carried out safely and in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, company procedures, site requirements and safe systems of work.

• 📑 Follow relevant RAMS, permits, risk assessments and safe working procedures when carrying out maintenance activities.

• 📝 Complete accurate maintenance records, job sheets and technical documentation.

• 💻 Update relevant CAFM/maintenance systems following completion of maintenance activities.

• 🤝 Work closely with engineering colleagues, specialist contractors and site personnel to support effective maintenance delivery.

• 🔎 Assist with statutory inspections, compliance activities and engineering audits where required.

• 🧰 Ensure tools, equipment, materials and spare parts are available and used appropriately.

• 📦 Maintain suitable stocks of essential spares and materials to support effective maintenance activities.

• 📈 Identify recurring faults and opportunities to improve plant reliability and maintenance performance.

• 💬 Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach when interacting with site personnel, contractors and stakeholders.

• 🎓 Maintain and develop technical knowledge through ongoing training and professional development.

👨‍🔧 Requirements

• ⚙️ Proven experience working as a Multi-Skilled Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Technician or similar.

• 🔧 Strong practical mechanical maintenance experience within Facilities Management, Industrial, Manufacturing, Commercial or a similar environment.

• 🛠️ Proven experience carrying out both PPM and reactive maintenance.

• 🔍 Strong mechanical fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

• ⚙️ Practical experience maintaining pumps, motors, valves and associated mechanical plant.

• 🔥 Experience maintaining boilers, water heaters and associated mechanical systems.

• ⚡ Good working knowledge of electrical systems and the ability to carry out basic electrical fault finding and diagnostics.

• 🔌 Ability to undertake straightforward electrical repairs where appropriately qualified and competent.

• 🧠 Understanding of when electrical faults require escalation to specialist engineers or the relevant client team.

• 💧 Understanding of water systems and water hygiene requirements.

• 🏭 Experience working within an industrial or large-scale facilities environment.

• 🎓 Formal training or qualification in mechanical engineering/services maintenance.

• 🦺 Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within an engineering and maintenance environment.

• 📑 Understanding of RAMS, risk assessments, permits and safe systems of work.

• 📋 Good understanding of planned and reactive maintenance requirements.

• 💻 Ability to complete maintenance records and technical documentation accurately.

• 💬 Good verbal and written communication skills.

• 🪜 Comfortable working at height, including accessing roofs and using vertical access equipment.

• ⏱️ Ability to participate in an out-of-hours standby and call-out rota when required.

⭐ Desirable Experience

• 💧 Experience working with cooling towers and evaporative cooling systems.

• 📖 Formal certification relating to the maintenance and operation of evaporative cooling systems.

• 💦 Experience supporting water hygiene and water management programmes.

• 🦠 Understanding of Legionella control and water hygiene monitoring requirements.

• 🏢 Previous experience working on a client-resident site.

• 💻 Experience using CAFM or computerised maintenance management systems.

• 🖥️ Basic knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).

• 🦺 Formal Health & Safety training.
