How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Field Service Engineer

    Forklift & Materials Handling

    Location: Croydon / South London / London NW / Surrounding Home Counties

    Salary: £50,(Apply online only) DOE + Overtime + Benefits

    Hours:
    Full-Time – 47.5 paid hours per week
    06:00am – 16:00pm, Monday–Friday
    Additional overtime available, paid at 1.5x

    About the Role

    We are recruiting for a Field Service Engineer to join a well-established and growing specialist materials handling business.

    In this role, you will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, inspection, repair and commissioning of forklifts and other materials handling equipment at customer sites across South London, London NW and the surrounding Home Counties.

    You will play a key role in keeping customers' operations moving, diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and ensuring equipment is operating safely and reliably.

    This is a field-based, customer-facing position offering a high level of variety and autonomy, with the opportunity to develop your technical skills within a long-established, family-owned business.

    Key Responsibilities

    Carry out planned servicing, preventative maintenance and inspections on forklifts and materials handling equipment
    Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults
    Carry out repairs and replacement of faulty components safely and efficiently
    Commission materials handling equipment at customer sites
    Identify repair requirements and minimise customer downtime wherever possible
    Request parts accurately using a tablet and keep the Service Team updated on any follow-up work required
    Complete service reports, inspection records and relevant compliance documentation
    Work closely with the Service Manager and Service Coordinator to manage scheduled work, priorities and call-outs
    Build and maintain strong customer relationships through professional and reliable service
    Ensure all work is carried out in line with Health & Safety, quality and customer site requirements
    Maintain and develop your technical knowledge through training and ongoing development
    About You

    Experience working in an engineering, mechanical or similar technical role
    Strong mechanical aptitude with good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
    Experience in materials handling, forklift, plant, agricultural, automotive or a similar engineering environment is highly desirable
    Electrical and/or hydraulic diagnostic experience would be advantageous
    Good communication skills with the ability to deal professionally with customers
    Able to work independently and manage your own workload effectively
    Reliable, flexible and willing to go the extra mile to support customers when required
    Good attention to detail with the ability to complete accurate reports and documentation
    Full UK driving licence
    NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent engineering qualification would be advantageous, although relevant practical experience will also be considered
