How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Business Development Manager
Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire | Hybrid
    Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 basic + commission
    OTE: Up to £70,000
    Area: South of England
    Industry: Fire & Security

Ready to take ownership of a territory and make a real impact?
We are looking for an ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Manager to join a well established and growing Fire & Security business based in St Albans.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with proven experience within the fire and security industry who enjoys winning new business, developing long term client relationships and seeing opportunities through from initial conversation to signed contract.
With more than 25 years in the industry, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering high quality life safety and security solutions. As part of its continued growth, it is now looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to help develop new revenue streams and expand its customer base across the South.
With a basic salary of up to £45,000 and OTE of up to £70,000, this is a genuine opportunity to be rewarded for the business you generate.

    The Role
Reporting directly to the Group Sales Director, you will take ownership of developing new business opportunities across the South.
You will be responsible for identifying and approaching prospective customers, building strong relationships and converting opportunities into profitable, long term accounts across Fire & Security installation, service and maintenance.
This is a varied role combining new business development, relationship building, networking, site surveys, proposals, negotiation and account development.

    You will:
    - Identify and develop new business opportunities across your territory
    - Build relationships with prospective customers across both the private and public sectors
    - Generate new revenue across Fire & Security installation, service and maintenance contracts
    - Manage the complete sales process from initial lead generation through to contract mobilisation
    - Develop a strong and sustainable sales pipeline
    - Research target markets, customer requirements and competitor activity
    - Attend networking opportunities and represent the business professionally within the market
    - Carry out site surveys and work with customers to understand their Fire & Security requirements
    - Produce professional quotations and tailored commercial proposals
    - Negotiate and close contracts while achieving agreed revenue and margin targets
    - Identify opportunities to upsell and cross sell additional services
    - Maintain accurate pipeline information and sales activity using Simpro
    - Track performance against KPIs and provide regular updates to senior management

    What We Are Looking For
You will be a confident, motivated and commercially minded sales professional who enjoys creating opportunities rather than waiting for them to arrive.
Previous experience within the Fire & Security industry is essential, alongside a proven track record of selling installation projects and ongoing service and maintenance contracts.
    You will ideally have:
    - Proven Fire & Security industry experience
    - A successful track record within Business Development or B2B Sales
    - Experience selling installation, service and maintenance contracts
    - Strong new business development skills
    - Experience managing the full sales cycle
    - Excellent negotiation and closing skills
    - Strong account management and relationship building ability
    - A commercial approach with a focus on profitable, sustainable growth
    - Confidence dealing with decision makers and senior stakeholders
    - Excellent organisation and communication skills
    - The ability to manage your own territory and pipeline effectively
Most importantly, you will be a proactive self starter who takes ownership, enjoys developing relationships and is motivated by winning new business.

    What's On Offer?
Alongside a £35,000 to £45,000 basic salary and OTE of up to £70,000, you will join a business that genuinely invests in its people and offers excellent opportunities for development and progression.
    Benefits include:
    - 9 day working fortnight, supporting a genuine work life balance
    - 25 days' holiday plus Bank Holidays
    - Holiday allowance increasing with service, up to 35 days
    - Salary sacrifice pension scheme
    - Death in service insurance at three times basic salary
    - Employee Assistance Programme
    - 24 hour GP and mental health support
    - Continuous professional development through internal Academy and Fast Track programmes
    - Quarterly development meetings with your line manager
    - Employee recognition programme
    - Annual company conference celebrating achievements and future plans
    - Supportive and collaborative working environment

    Interested?
If you are an experienced Fire & Security Business Development Manager looking for an opportunity where you can take ownership of your territory, build meaningful client relationships and be rewarded for your success, we would love to hear from you.
Apply today for a confidential conversation and further information.
