How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Science Curriculum Lead

    Department: R.E.A.L Independent Schools
    Location: All R.E.A.L Education Sites
    Reports to: Head of Quality of Education
    Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

    Role Purpose

    To support and maintain high levels of learner engagement through the collaborative preparation and delivery of an innovative, creative and flexible Science curriculum.

    The role requires a collaborative and multi-agency approach to education, with a strong focus on learner engagement, safeguarding, health and safety, risk management and achieving positive outcomes for young people.

    Key Responsibilities

    Act in accordance with organisational policies and procedures, including the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy.
    Advocate for young people and their families and encourage learners to participate in decision-making and the management of their programmes.
    Take responsibility for the assessment, preparation, delivery and review of learners' Science curriculum, including lesson planning.
    Provide a range of teaching approaches and opportunities to promote engagement with learning.
    Lead the Science curriculum area, including the development of schemes of work, lesson plans and resources.
    Provide curriculum advice to teaching colleagues regarding learners' individual programmes.
    Ensure the Science curriculum follows the termly direction provided by the designated Head Teacher.
    Maintain awareness of safeguarding procedures and work appropriately with the Designated Safeguarding Officer.
    Ensure the safety and wellbeing of young people and vulnerable adults is prioritised at all times.
    Take responsibility for learner health and safety, reporting accidents and identified risks to the designated Learning Manager and completing incident reports where required.
    Support Learning Managers to ensure venues are appropriate and suitably risk assessed, and comply with organisational Health and Safety guidance.
    Support the collection and collation of learner information, including profiles, pen pictures, risk management procedures and special educational needs information.
    Differentiate teaching and learning appropriately to meet identified individual needs.
    Support assessments, pupil tracking, progress reports and feedback reports.
    Contribute to information required by commissioning bodies, including Education, Health and Care Plans, KS3/KS4 transition planning and post-16 opportunities.
    Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Directors or designated Head of Service.
    Take responsibility for your own continuous professional development.

    Knowledge - Essential

    Awareness of current internal and external verification frameworks and the Science and Ofsted Inspection Frameworks.
    Awareness of relevant legislation, guidance and their implications for policy, procedure and practice.
    Demonstrable knowledge of teaching practice for young people with additional needs.
    Demonstrable knowledge of the Science curriculum.
    Commitment to continuous professional development, including the required CPD.

    Experience - Essential

    Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults with additional needs within an education setting.
    Experience developing effective resources for children and young people with additional needs.

    Skills - Essential

    Effective communication skills across a variety of formats.
    Strong ICT skills, including Google and cloud-based applications.
    Effective record keeping, with awareness of GDPR and information-sharing protocols.
    Recognised skills in working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

    Education & Training - Essential

    Minimum Level 6 qualification in the relevant Science curriculum area.
    Evidence of previous curriculum-specific CPD.
