How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Design Extraordinary Buildings. Build a Career You're Proud Of.
    At Oakwrights, we don't produce standard designs, and we don't build ordinary buildings.
    For over 25 years, we've been creating some of the UK's most beautiful bespoke oak-framed homes, extensions, outbuildings and architectural structures, combining traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge manufacturing technology.
    Every project is unique, every challenge is different, and every design leaves a lasting mark on the landscape.
    As our business continues to grow, we're looking for a talented Structural Designer with experience in timber, steel and oak frame construction to join our passionate design team in Hereford.
    Why Oakwrights
    Imagine working somewhere that takes a project from concept to reality under one roof.
    Our design office sits alongside our workshop and advanced Hundegger CNC manufacturing facilities, giving you a direct connection between what you design and what gets built. You'll see your ideas move from drawings and details to precision-machined components and ultimately to stunning completed structures.
    We're a family-run business with 138 talented people, a reputation for excellence, and a culture built around craftsmanship, innovation and continuous improvement.
    From contemporary architectural homes to traditional oak-framed masterpieces, every project presents a new opportunity to create something exceptional.
    The Opportunity
    You'll play a key role in delivering bespoke projects from initial architectural information through to:
    * Structural design
    * Detailed technical drawings
    * Project coordination
    * Machine-ready production information
    * Site delivery support
    Working closely with structural engineers, manufacturing teams and construction professionals, you'll develop practical, buildable solutions across our timber, steel and oak frame systems.
    No repetitive developments. No standard house types. No copy-and-paste projects.
    Just genuinely interesting, one-off buildings that challenge and develop your skills every day.
    Who We're Looking For
    You may already be an experienced designer, or you may have developed your expertise through hands-on work in:
    * Timber frame construction
    * Oak frame construction
    * Steel fabrication
    * CNC manufacturing
    * Design offices
    * Workshops
    * Site construction

    * Excellent technical and problem-solving skills
    * A practical mindset with an eye for detail
    * A passion for creating high-quality, buildable solutions
    A degree is not essential. What matters most to us is your experience, technical ability and enthusiasm to learn.
    If you're coming from a practical background and looking to move further into design, we'd love to hear from you.
    At Oakwrights, we don't just hire talent. We develop it. You'll receive:
    * Full training on our design software
    * Access to the STA Designer Training Scheme
    * Ongoing professional development
    * Mentoring from experienced design and engineering professionals
    This is an opportunity to grow your career within a respected and innovative company that genuinely values its people.
    Some of the best people in our industry took an unconventional path into design. If you've got strong technical knowledge, practical construction experience and the drive to develop, we'd love to have a conversation.
