How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Opportunity

A well-established and highly respected regional contractor is looking to appoint a Design Coordinator to support the successful delivery of projects ranging from £1m to £15m across the Home Counties, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire and North London.

Reporting to the Main Contracts Director, this is a standalone design role offering the opportunity to take ownership of the design process from tender stage through to project completion. The successful candidate will work closely with pre-construction, commercial and operational teams, coordinating consultant design teams and ensuring projects are delivered in line with programme, budget, technical requirements and client expectations.

Based between the company's Luton Head Office, project sites and client locations, the role offers exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects across the commercial, education, industrial, heritage, blue light and leisure sectors.

This is a full-time position with standard working hours of 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday, although flexibility will be required to meet project and client requirements.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Design Coordinator, Assistant Design Manager or Design Manager looking to join a successful family-owned contractor with a reputation for quality, repeat business and investing in its people.

    Key Responsibilities

Coordinate the design process from tender through to completion and handover.

Support both pre-construction and delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Manage full design, Design & Build schemes and Contractor Designed Packages (CDPs).

Liaise with architects, structural engineers, M&E consultants and specialist subcontractors.

Review designs to identify buildability improvements and value engineering opportunities.

Manage drawing registers, design trackers and information release schedules.

Produce and maintain design programmes using Power Project or similar planning software.

Review technical submissions, RFIs and consultant responses.

Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, CDM 2015 and the Building Safety Act where applicable.

Attend design meetings, monitor actions and drive progress against programme requirements.

Support tender submissions and review Employer's Requirements.

Work closely with site and commercial teams to ensure design intent is successfully delivered.

    About You

Applicants should have experience coordinating or managing the design process within a main contractor environment and be comfortable working across multiple live projects.

    Key experience includes:

Design Coordination or Design Management experience with a main contractor.

Experience delivering projects from £1m to £15m.

Knowledge of traditional and Design & Build procurement routes.

    Experience managing Contractor Designed Packages.

Working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.

Understanding of CDM 2015 and Building Safety legislation.

    Strong technical construction knowledge.

Experience coordinating multiple consultants and stakeholders.

Proficiency with Power Project or similar planning software.

BIM and Revit experience would be advantageous.

Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.

    Qualifications

HNC, HND or Degree in Construction Management, Building Surveying, Architecture or a related discipline.

Valid CSCS card supported by a recognised qualification.

    SMSTS desirable.

    Full UK Driving Licence.

    Security & Vetting Requirements

Due to the nature of projects undertaken, candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, have been resident in the UK for the previous five years and be willing to undergo DBS, BPSS and client-specific security clearance checks where required.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful regional contractor delivering a varied portfolio of quality projects, whilst building a long-term career within a supportive and stable business
