About the School
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lambeth is seeking a dedicated Psychology, Autism & Speech and Language Support Assistant to join its specialist Autism Base.
The Autism Base provides specialist support for primary-aged children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and a range of additional communication, learning and sensory needs. The school is committed to creating a nurturing and structured environment where every child can develop academically, socially and emotionally.
You will work closely with experienced teachers, SEN professionals and external specialists to provide personalised support in line with pupils' individual needs and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or aspiring education professional looking to gain valuable experience in Autism, Psychology, Speech and Language, SEN education or Educational Psychology.
The Role and Responsibilities
As a Psychology, Autism & Speech and Language Support Assistant, you will:
Provide dedicated 1:1 and small-group support for pupils within the school's Autism Base.
Support children with Autism and associated communication, learning and sensory needs.
Deliver targeted interventions to develop communication, social interaction and independence.
Use autism-friendly strategies including visual timetables, PECS, Makaton, sensory resources and social stories.
Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to implement individual learning plans and EHCP targets.
Support the development of speech, language and communication skills throughout the school day.
Encourage positive social interaction, confidence and independence.
Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers and the SEN team.
Help create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.
Uphold high standards of safeguarding, inclusion and positive behaviour management.Candidate Requirements
The ideal Psychology, Autism & Speech and Language Support Assistant will have:
A degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, Speech and Language, Linguistics or a related subject, although this is not essential.
A genuine interest in supporting children with Autism and additional special educational needs.
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, Autism, ADHD or communication needs.
A patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
An interest in developing a long-term career in Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Educational Psychology, SEN teaching or specialist education.
Experience with PECS, Makaton, visual supports or sensory strategies would be advantageous but is not essentialWhat the School Offers
