Client Payroll Manager

We’re working with a growing professional services organisation that is looking for an experienced Client Payroll Manager to take ownership of its UK client payroll function.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced payroll bureau professional who enjoys working directly with clients, managing complex payroll requirements and leading a small team.
The Role
You’ll be the main point of contact and escalation point for UK payroll clients, overseeing a portfolio of around 500 payrolls, ranging from small businesses through to clients with up to 200 employees.
You’ll combine technical payroll expertise with client management and team leadership, while working closely with an international outsourcing team to support wider payroll delivery.
The role will also involve:
* Managing and reviewing UK weekly, monthly and annual payrolls
* Acting as the main escalation point for clients and resolving complex payroll queries
* Managing and developing a small payroll team
* Overseeing client onboarding, controls, reviews and agreed SLAs
* Managing pension schemes and auto-enrolment requirements
* Liaising with HMRC, pension providers and other statutory bodies
* Ensuring payroll processes remain compliant and technically accurate
* Working with an offshore payroll team to support delivery where required
* Identifying opportunities for process improvements, cross-selling and upselling
* Ensuring clients are billed accurately and promptly
About You
We’re looking for a technically strong payroll professional who has come from a payroll bureau/client payroll environment and is confident managing both clients and a team.
You’ll ideally have:
* Strong UK payroll bureau experience
* Experience managing a high volume of client payrolls
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements
* Experience with weekly, monthly and annual payrolls
* Previous team leadership or management experience
* Strong client-facing and relationship management skills
* Experience with pension schemes and auto-enrolment
* Confidence dealing with HMRC and other statutory bodies
* Experience with payroll systems such as BrightPay, Sage or Xero would be advantageous
* A strong technical eye and commitment to maintaining payroll standards

Salary description
£50000.00 - £60000.00 per year
