How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Astute's Nuclear Team is partnering with Fayat Lifting, a leading lifting and engineering specialist supporting the Hinkley Point C project, to recruit a Crane Engineer for its Bridgwater, Somerset site.

    The Crane Engineer role comes with a competitive salary up to £60,000, tax free accomodation allowance of £18,000, and the opportunity to work on one of the UK's largest nuclear infrastructure projects.

    Responsibilities and duties of the Crane Engineer role

    Carry out the electrical and mechanical installation of overhead gantry cranes and associated lifting equipment in line with project specifications, drawings and programme requirements.
    Provide on-site fault-finding, commissioning support and technical troubleshooting during and after installation, resolving electrical or mechanical issues promptly.
    Liaise with design and engineering teams to resolve discrepancies between drawings, design requirements and site conditions, providing practical technical solutions where needed.
    Support the installation, testing and handover of crane control systems, motors, drives, cabling and associated electrical equipment.
    Communicate with clients and site teams to understand requirements, provide progress updates and support user training and handover documentation.
    Ensure all installation activities comply with health and safety regulations, company procedures and relevant lifting-industry best practice.
    Maintain accurate installation records, test documentation and as-built information throughout the project. Professional qualifications

    We are looking for someone with the following:

    A recognised Level 3 engineering or electrical qualification, such as an Advanced Apprenticeship, NVQ, BTEC, HNC or City & Guilds qualification in Electrical, Mechanical or Engineering Maintenance.
    Experience within the nuclear industry or another highly regulated engineering environment.
    Understanding of LOLER regulations, lifting standards and safe systems of work.
    Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK.Personal skills

    The Crane Engineer role would suit someone who is:

    Electrically biased, with a practical understanding of mechanical installation and maintenance.
    Experienced in installing, fault-finding and commissioning overhead gantry cranes or similar industrial lifting equipment.
    Confident reading electrical drawings, schematics and engineering documentation.
    Practical and solution-focused, able to troubleshoot issues on site.
    Comfortable communicating with clients, engineers and installation teams.
