How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Housing Enforcement Assistant (Property Licensing)

    Location: Croydon, CR0 1EA - Hybrid Working - 3 days office / 2 days remote

    Hourly rate £18.92 PAYE / £25.03 Umbrella per hour

    Contract Length: 3 -month contract (possibility of extension)

    Working Pattern: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 36 hours

    About the Role

    We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused Housing Enforcement Assistant to join our team on a temporary 3-month basis to support the implementation of a Property Licensing Scheme. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys providing exceptional customer service while supporting important housing and licensing services.

    Working as part of a busy team, you will act as a key point of contact for residents, landlords, licence applicants and other stakeholders, responding to enquiries, providing accurate information, and supporting a range of administrative processes related to property licensing and private sector housing services.

    The role will involve handling telephone, email and written enquiries, maintaining accurate records, supporting casework and ensuring a high standard of customer care at all times. The role aligns closely with responsibilities outlined in the including customer enquiries, property licensing administration, record management and stakeholder liaison.

    Key Responsibilities

    Act as a first point of contact for customer enquiries relating to housing, property licensing and related services.
    Provide accurate, timely and professional advice to members of the public and stakeholders.
    Respond to telephone, email and written enquiries, complaints and correspondence.
    Support the administration of property licensing applications and maintain accurate records and databases.
    Research and gather information to provide informed responses to customer enquiries.
    Assist with the processing of licensing-related documentation and administrative tasks.
    Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, landlords, tenants and residents as required.
    Prioritise and manage a varied workload while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
    Support the wider team during the implementation of the Property Licensing Scheme. These duties reflect key aspects of the housing enforcement and property licensing support functions described in the attached role profile.

    Essential Skills and Experience

    We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

    Excellent customer service skills and experience handling enquiries from members of the public.
    Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    Excellent telephone manner and interpersonal skills.
    Experience working in a busy and demanding environment.
    Ability to deal with challenging situations professionally, calmly and sensitively.
    Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
    Ability to prepare clear, concise and well-structured responses to customer enquiries and complaints.
    Ability to work independently, use initiative and research information to provide accurate advice.
    Good IT skills and experience using databases, Microsoft Office applications and customer management systems.
    A positive, enthusiastic and adaptable approach to work.

    Desirable Skills and Experience

    Knowledge of the housing sector.
    Knowledge and experience of property licensing schemes.
    Experience working within a regulatory, enforcement or local authority environment.
    Understanding of private sector housing services and housing legislation. These areas are highlighted within the attached housing enforcement role profile as beneficial knowledge for supporting property licensing and housing services.
