How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Software Engineer | London | Up to £130,000

    Working Pattern: Hybrid

    About the Role

    We are looking for a pragmatic and hands-on Software Engineer to join a growing technology team developing software platforms that support scientific research and computational workflows.

    This is a varied engineering position covering backend development, cloud infrastructure, workflow automation, DevOps, scientific data management and full-stack application development. You’ll work closely with scientists and other technical specialists to turn complex research requirements into reliable, scalable software.

    Key Responsibilities

    +Design, develop and maintain core software platforms and backend services.
    +Build modern web applications, internal tools and portals used by scientific and technical teams.
    +Develop software to automate experimental and computational workflows, reducing manual processes.
    +Design and improve systems for managing scientific data and associated internal tooling.
    +Build and maintain cloud infrastructure using AWS and Infrastructure as Code.
    +Develop, deploy and support containerised applications using Docker and technologies such as ECS or Kubernetes.

    What We're Looking For

    +Professional software engineering experience within biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, scientific research or a related technical environment.
    +Experience developing internal scientific software, research platforms or laboratory/data management systems.
    +Strong commercial experience with Python.
    +Experience developing backend services, APIs and data-driven applications.
    +Experience building modern web applications using technologies such as JavaScript/TypeScript and React.
    +Good knowledge of relational databases and experience working with scientific or business data.
    +Experience developing and deploying applications within AWS or another major cloud environment.
