How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Controls Engineer – Industrial Automation

    £60,000

    Commutable from Leicester, Hinckley, Coventry, Nuneaton, Rugby and surrounding areas

    We are looking for an experienced Controls Engineer to join an established control systems engineering team specialising in the design, development and commissioning of bespoke industrial machinery and automation systems.

    This is a hands-on, project-driven role where you will be responsible for developing PLC, HMI and safety software from first principles, through to testing, commissioning and customer handover.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Design and develop PLC control software for Siemens TIA Portal/S7 and/or Rockwell Studio 5000 systems

    * Write PLC software from first principles for bespoke industrial machinery and automation projects

    * Develop, test and validate safety-related control software

    * Configure and commission VFDs, servo drives, motion systems, fieldbus networks and remote I/O

    * Work with industrial communication networks including Profinet, Profibus and EtherNet/IP

    * Read and interpret electrical drawings, I/O schedules and functional specifications

    * Carry out control-system and electrical fault finding during build, testing and commissioning

    * Produce and maintain technical documentation including FDS, test documentation, commissioning notes and O&M information

    * Work closely with project managers, electrical designers, panel builders, installation and commissioning teams

    * Commission automated machinery at customer sites, including occasional overnight stays and weekend work where required

    Key Skills & Experience

    * Experience developing PLC software from first principles within an industrial automation or machinery environment

    * Strong PLC programming experience with Siemens TIA Portal/S7 and/or Rockwell Studio 5000

    * Experience developing and commissioning safety-related control software

    * Full UK driving licence

    * Existing right to work in the UK — visa sponsorship is not available for this position
