How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

BTG Eddisons is a leading firm of chartered surveyors operating across fast-moving UK and international markets. Established in 1844, we now operate from over 30 offices nationwide, delivering expert advice and a comprehensive range of professional services to property owners, occupiers, businesses, educational institutions, and financial organisations.

As part of our continued growth, we're expanding our Sustainability & Decarbonisation team and are seeking an experienced Senior Decarbonisation Engineer to help shape and deliver low-carbon solutions for clients across the UK, with a particular focus on public sector and education estates.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who is passionate about reducing carbon emissions, improving building performance, and delivering practical Net Zero strategies through robust technical analysis and heat decarbonisation planning.

    The Role

As a Senior Decarbonisation Engineer, you will lead the technical development and delivery of decarbonisation and energy projects, supporting clients in their transition towards Net Zero Carbon.

You'll undertake heat modelling, building performance analysis, feasibility studies, and decarbonisation planning, whilst providing technical leadership across a range of projects. Working alongside surveyors, project managers, building services engineers, and sustainability specialists, you will help develop innovative and commercially viable low-carbon solutions for complex building portfolios.

    Key Responsibilities

    Heat Modelling & Energy Analysis

Undertake building heat load calculations, thermal modelling, and energy performance assessments.

Analyse building energy consumption data and operational performance.

Use modelling outputs to inform low-carbon heating and building improvement strategies.

Assess building fabric performance and identify opportunities to reduce energy demand.

    Decarbonisation & Net Zero Planning

Develop Heat Decarbonisation Plans (HDPs) and Net Zero Carbon roadmaps.

Produce feasibility studies and options appraisals for decarbonisation projects.

    Evaluate technologies including:

    Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)

    Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP)

    Solar PV

    Battery Storage

    Heat Networks

    Building Fabric Improvements

Support clients with long-term investment planning and carbon reduction programmes.

    Technical Leadership

Provide technical guidance throughout project lifecycles from concept through implementation.

Review designs and specifications to ensure alignment with decarbonisation objectives.

Work closely with mechanical and electrical design teams on low-carbon solutions.

Support business development activities and client presentations.

    Project Delivery

Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.

Collaborate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

Conduct site visits and technical surveys across the UK.

Produce clear technical reports, recommendations, and funding submissions.

    What You'll Be Doing Day-to-Day

Carrying out heat load calculations and building performance modelling.

Producing Heat Decarbonisation Plans and technical feasibility studies.

Assessing estate-wide energy and carbon data.

Modelling low-carbon heating and renewable energy technologies.

Preparing technical reports and client presentations.

Working with multidisciplinary teams to develop sustainable engineering solutions.

Visiting client sites to undertake surveys and validate technical assumptions.

Supporting funding applications and public sector decarbonisation programmes.
