How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

SEN Primary Teacher – Special School | B34, Birmingham

Smile Education are recruiting for an experienced SEN Primary Teacher to join a welcoming and nurturing special school in B34. This is an immediate-start, full-time opportunity for an experienced and passionate teacher who is looking to make a genuine difference to the lives of children with complex and additional learning needs. There is also the opportunity for the successful candidate to secure a permanent position directly with the school, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a long-term role within a specialist setting.

The school is a well-established community special school providing education for primary-aged children with severe and complex learning difficulties. The setting supports pupils with a wide range of additional needs, including speech, language and communication needs, autism, severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, physical disabilities and hearing impairment.
Every pupil has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and the school takes a highly individualised approach to learning. Staff work closely with families and a range of professionals to ensure that each child's educational, communication, emotional, physical and developmental needs are understood and supported.

    The children benefit from:

    Highly differentiated and personalised learning
    Consistent routines and clear expectations
    Individualised communication approaches
    Sensory and practical learning opportunities
Support with social, emotional and communication development
Opportunities to develop independence and life skills
A nurturing and supportive classroom environment
Close collaboration between teachers, support staff, families and external professionalsThe successful teacher will need to understand that progress in a specialist setting can look very different from a mainstream classroom. Small steps can represent significant achievements, and the ability to recognise, celebrate and build upon these moments is incredibly important. The school has high aspirations for every pupil and works to develop independence according to each child's individual starting point. Every child should have access to learning and opportunities that are appropriate to their needs.

As an SEN Primary Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging, personalised learning experiences to a class of pupils with complex additional needs.
    You will:

Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons
Adapt the curriculum to meet individual pupil needs and EHCP outcomes
Create a calm, structured and stimulating classroom environment
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
Work closely with experienced teaching assistants and support staff
Monitor, assess and record pupil progress
Support pupils' communication, independence and social development
Work collaboratively with parents, carers and external professionals
Contribute to EHCP reviews and individual learning plans
Use creative and practical approaches to engage pupils
Promote positive behaviour through consistent, nurturing approaches
Celebrate individual achievements and encourage pupils to reach their potential
Maintain high standards of safeguarding and professional practiceThe Ideal Candidate will be experienced, resilient, nurturing and passionate about specialist education.
