How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Civil Design Engineer
    Leeds

If you're a Civil Engineer who enjoys the design work but wants more ownership of projects, better variety and a clearer route forward, this could be a very good next move.

An established, employee-owned engineering Consultancy is looking for a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join its Leeds team. The business has a long history in the city and across Yorkshire, but this is very much a modern, forward-looking Consultancy with a strong pipeline of work and a reputation for giving its engineers the freedom to take responsibility and develop.

As an employee-owned business, there is a genuine sense that people have a stake in where the company is going. It creates a collaborative environment where engineers are encouraged to contribute ideas, challenge designs and get involved beyond simply completing their allotted part of a project.

The Leeds Civil Engineering team works across a varied portfolio of building and development-led projects, covering sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, residential, regeneration and mixed-use development. Projects range from new-build developments through to complex existing sites, so there is plenty of technical variety rather than working on the same type of scheme repeatedly.

You'll be involved from the early stages of a project, developing drainage and highways solutions and helping to take schemes through detailed design and delivery. The role will include drainage strategies, SuDS, external works, levels and earthworks, highways design and the preparation of technical information for planning and construction.

There is plenty of opportunity to remain hands-on with the design work. At the same time, you'll begin taking greater responsibility for your own projects, dealing directly with clients and other members of the design team and providing support to junior engineers and technicians around you.
It could suit somebody already working at Senior Engineer level, but equally an Engineer who feels ready to make that next move and wants a Consultancy that will give them the opportunity to do it.

You'll ideally have experience within a civil engineering Consultancy and a good grounding in development infrastructure design. Experience across areas such as drainage, SuDS, highways, external works and levels would all be useful, alongside knowledge of relevant UK design standards and approval processes.

Experience with software such as Civil 3D and drainage design/modelling packages would be advantageous, although the emphasis is on finding a capable engineer with good technical judgement rather than somebody who simply ticks every software box. Chartership is not essential. If it is something you want to achieve, there is support available to help you get there, while engineers who prefer to focus on developing technically are equally valued.

The wider Leeds office brings Civil and Structural Engineers together, giving you the opportunity to work closely with different disciplines rather than operating within an isolated infrastructure team. It is a friendly, established office with experienced people around you, but enough autonomy to make projects your own.

For somebody looking for a Senior Civil Design Engineer position where they can stay close to the engineering, take on more responsibility and build towards the next stage of their career without being pushed away from design, this offers a really strong opportunity.
