How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Communications Officer - Part Time

Location: Ipswich, with regular travel across the Eastern region and to London HQ
Contract: Permanent, part time - 24 hours per week
Salary: Up to £42,000 pro rata, depending on experience, plus 7.5% bonus
    Closing date: 14 September 2026

Help tell the stories behind the essential work that keeps the lights on for 8 million homes and businesses across London, the East and South East of England.

UK Power Networks is looking for a creative and confident Communications Officer to join its Press Office team on a part-time basis. Based in Ipswich, you will secure positive media coverage across the Eastern region and bring compelling stories to life - from apprenticeships and community initiatives to major operational updates and award entries.

This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You will write high-quality external communications, respond to media enquiries, monitor breaking news and work closely with colleagues across the business to identify strong content ideas. You will need excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound news judgement, a collaborative approach and the confidence to build relationships with journalists and internal stakeholders.

The role is three days per week, working 8am to 5pm, with blended working available after probation. You will need your own transport for regional travel, with work travel expenses paid. In return, UK Power Networks offers a competitive benefits package including annual leave plus bank holidays, pension contributions, bonus, employee assistance, occupational health support, retail discounts, gym membership discounts and tax-efficient benefits.

If you are an experienced communications professional with strong writing skills, a keen eye for a story and the ability to work at pace, we would like to hear from you. Apply by 14 September 2026 to be considered for this part-time Communications Officer opportunity.
