Are you an experienced Senior PHP Developer, PHP Laravel Developer or Senior Laravel Developer looking to work on a successful global SaaS platform using a modern technology stack?

We're looking for a Senior PHP Developer to join an established software engineering team responsible for developing and scaling a global SaaS product.

This is very much a PHP / Laravel-led development role. You'll work extensively across backend development using PHP, Laravel, MySQL and REST APIs, while also having the opportunity to develop functionality across the wider stack using Vue.js and TypeScript.

We're particularly interested in a Senior PHP Developer who has built substantial commercial applications using PHP and Laravel, understands modern software engineering practices and wants to remain hands-on with backend development while broadening their full-stack experience.

The Senior PHP Developer Role

As a Senior PHP Developer, you'll design, build and improve scalable, secure SaaS applications using PHP and Laravel.

You'll develop and integrate RESTful APIs, third-party services and backend functionality while working extensively with MySQL and relational databases, including application and database performance optimisation.

The role isn't exclusively backend. You'll also contribute to product functionality across Vue.js, JavaScript and TypeScript, working closely with Product Owners, Designers and other Software Engineers to take features from initial requirements through development, testing and release.

You'll write clean, maintainable and well-tested PHP code, including automated testing using PHPUnit, while contributing to technical discussions around software architecture, application security, performance, scalability and engineering standards.

PHP & Laravel Experience

The most important requirement for this position is a strong commercial background in PHP and Laravel development.

We're particularly interested in experience across:

PHP & Laravel: commercial PHP development, Laravel applications, object-oriented programming and backend software engineering.

APIs & Databases: REST APIs, API integrations, third-party services, MySQL, relational databases and performance optimisation.

*

Software Engineering: PHPUnit, automated testing, Git/GitHub, clean code, application architecture and modern development practices.

*

Full-Stack Development: Vue.js, TypeScript, JavaScript and modern frontend development.

This isn't a position where PHP is simply one technology amongst many. PHP and Laravel are at the heart of the role, so you'll need substantial hands-on Laravel development experience.

The Wider Technology Stack

You don't need to be a specialist Frontend Developer, but you'll need an interest in modern JavaScript development and be comfortable contributing across the wider application.

The technology environment includes Vue.js, TypeScript and JavaScript, alongside cloud and DevOps technologies including AWS, Docker, Git/GitHub and CI/CD.

Experience with Node.js, SaaS platforms, cloud-native development or AI-assisted development tools would also be useful, although these aren't the primary focus of the position.

The opportunity is therefore particularly well suited to a Senior PHP / Laravel Developer who wants to retain PHP backend engineering as their core specialism while continuing to develop broader full-stack, cloud and SaaS experience.

Who We're Looking For

We're open to candidates currently working as a Senior PHP Developer, Senior Laravel Developer, PHP Laravel Developer, Senior PHP Engineer, Backend PHP Developer, Senior Backend Developer, Full Stack PHP Developer or Senior Software Engineer where PHP and Laravel are your primary backend technologies.

You'll have strong commercial PHP development experience alongside hands-on Laravel, REST API and MySQL knowledge.

You'll also bring a good understanding of software engineering principles including maintainability, testing, scalability, security and performance.

Experience working within a SaaS, product-led or software development environment would be particularly relevant.
