How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    English Teacher - Northampton

    Location: Northampton, Northamptonshire | Full-Time | September 2026 Start | Contract or Permanent

The school is open to both contract and permanent appointments, making this a great opportunity for experienced teachers and ECTs alike.

    You will be joining a positive school community that is committed to high standards of teaching and learning, with a strong focus on student progress, engagement, and personal development.

    The Role

    Teach engaging and purposeful English lessons across KS3 and KS4, with KS5 teaching available depending on experience.
    Deliver well-planned lessons that develop students' reading, writing, comprehension, analysis, and communication skills.
    Encourage students to explore and appreciate a diverse range of literary texts.
    Create opportunities for discussion, debate, critical thinking, and creative writing.
    Adapt lessons and resources to support students with different abilities and learning needs, including SEND and EAL.
    Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback to support improvement.
    Establish high expectations for behaviour, effort, and academic achievement.
    Work alongside the English department to develop schemes of work and contribute to curriculum planning.
    Support literacy initiatives, enrichment activities, clubs, and wider school events.

    About You

    Hold QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
    Have strong subject knowledge across English Language and Literature.
    Have experience teaching English within a secondary school setting.
    Be confident managing a classroom and creating a positive learning environment.
    Have the ability to engage students and make English accessible to learners of all abilities.
    Be committed to achieving high standards and helping every student make progress.
    Have strong communication, planning, and organisational skills.
    Be a reflective teacher who is keen to collaborate with colleagues and continue developing professionally.
    Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and student wellbeing.ECTs are encouraged to apply, with a supportive induction, mentoring, and guidance available.
