How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

PE Global are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Assistant for a temporary-to-permanent opportunity with a leading multinational food manufacturing client based in Reading.
    About the Role
This is a very junior, entry-level laboratory position designed for candidates who are looking to build practical, hands-on experience in a laboratory environment.
Please note that this role is specifically intended for candidates without a university degree. Candidates who hold a degree will not be considered for this position.
Previous practical laboratory experience would be advantageous, although we are also interested in candidates with experience working with food, for example in food production, restaurants, cafés, catering or similar environments, where they have developed an understanding of food safety and hygiene.
The role involves structured, routine laboratory work, including basic analysis, sample preparation and food product preparation. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable following established procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), working accurately and consistently, and carrying out routine tasks under supervision.
    Job Responsibilities
    •
Work across different laboratories as demand requires.
    •
Provide a high level of customer service by effectively organising assigned workloads and ensuring the integrity, accuracy and timely delivery of analytical results.
    •
Perform a range of basic routine analyses, product manufacturing and sample preparation under the supervision of a senior member of staff.
    •
Carry out laboratory tasks in accordance with specified methodologies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    •
Use specified laboratory instrumentation and equipment, including calibration where required.
    •
Produce reliable and accurate data and maintain clear and accurate records of laboratory work and results.
    •
Follow product formulations and methods, taking into account Standard Operating Procedures and food safety requirements, to produce food products at bench scale or in a manufacturing environment.
    •
Operate basic laboratory and manufacturing equipment as directed within RSSL's CCC.
    •
Develop competency in the use of generic and role-specific software packages, including the laboratory LIMS system and Q-Pulse.
    •
Carry out administrative, housekeeping and other duties as required.

    Candidate Profile
    The ideal candidate will:
    •
    Have no university degree.
    •
Have some practical laboratory experience, although extensive laboratory experience is not required.
    •
Alternatively, have practical experience working with food in a restaurant, café, catering, food production or similar environment.
    •
Have a basic understanding of food safety and hygiene.
    •
Be comfortable carrying out routine, structured and repetitive tasks.
    •
    Be reliable, organised and detail-oriented.
    •
Be willing to learn and follow established procedures and instructions.
    •
Be interested in developing practical, hands-on laboratory experience.

    Right to Work Requirements
This is a temporary-to-permanent position and the client is unable to provide visa sponsorship.
Applicants must have the unrestricted or appropriate right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship from the client.
Please note that candidates currently holding a Graduate Route / Post-Study Work visa will not be considered for this position.
Candidates with, for example, British or Irish citizenship, settled status, or an eligible visa that permits them to work in the UK without sponsorship may be considered, subject to the applicable right-to-work requirements.
Interested candidates should submit an updated CV.
