We are proud to be working with a long‑established, family‑run materials handling business is looking for a Workshop Engineer to join their growing team. Supplying a wide range of materials handling equipment, powered access, cleaning machinery and more across the UK, this company prides itself on quality, safety, and a close‑knit working culture where employees truly come first. You'll support the Workshop Manager in delivering high‑quality maintenance, inspections and repairs across a varied fleet, ensuring all workshop and on‑site activities are carried out safely and professionally.
The Role
As a Workshop Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining, repairing and servicing forklift trucks, MHE and plant equipment, ensuring assets are kept in top condition. Working closely with Field Service Engineers and the wider service team, you'll help keep the fleet running smoothly, support PDIs, request parts, and follow established service procedures. This role suits someone with strong mechanical skills, great attention to detail, and a proactive approach to safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
A typical day will consist of the following however you will be required to take on additional duties as requires to support the team and wider business
Repair, maintain and service forklift trucks, MHE and plant equipment
Diagnose faults and replace/repair defective parts
Request parts through the parts department
Support general upkeep of the fleet, including PDIs
Report to the Service Team for scheduled work
Follow all service procedures and site Health & Safety requirements
Uphold company objectives, quality standards and compliance processes
Pursue ongoing personal development and attend training as required
Work flexibly and support colleagues across workshop and site operations
Experience required
To be considered for this role, the successful candidate will have the following skills and experience
Previous experience as a vehicle engineer/fitter
NVQ in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Knowledge of forklift trucks would be advantageous however training is available
Experience in materials handling, plant or similar industries
Strong numeracy and analytical skills and is good at problem solving
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Able to work to tight deadlines
Flexible, supportive and team‑focused with excellent attention to detail
Courteous, friendly and tactful
Knowledge of forklift trucks (training available)
Good working knowledge of PDA/software systems
Personable and presentable
