About the Role
We are seeking a Site Manager for a year-long contract based on the Isle of Wight. The successful candidate will take responsibility for overseeing a residential construction project that includes demolition, scaffolding, glazing and fire remediation works. This position requires hands-on management to ensure the project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate and supervise all site activities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
Manage subcontractors and suppliers, monitoring progress and resolving any issues that arise on site.
Oversee demolition works, scaffolding erection and management, glazing installation, and fire remediation processes.
Conduct regular site inspections to ensure work meets specifications and quality standards.
Maintain clear and accurate site records, including daily reports, risk assessments and method statements.
Lead toolbox talks and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement among the workforce.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and smooth project delivery.
Manage resources efficiently, including labour, materials and plant.
Ensure all site activities comply with environmental and sustainability requirements.
Respond promptly to any site emergencies or incidents and implement corrective actions.
Required Qualifications and Certifications
Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate.
Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card valid for site management roles.
First Aid at Work certification.
Scaffold Awareness training.
Valid full UK driving licence.
Education and Experience
Proven experience as a Site Manager on residential construction projects, preferably involving demolition, scaffolding, glazing and fire remediation.
Demonstrable knowledge of construction methods, regulations, and health and safety legislation relevant to the building industry.
Experience in managing teams and subcontractors effectively on site.
Strong understanding of site management processes, risk assessments and method statements.
Knowledge and Skills
In-depth knowledge of facades, demolition procedures, glazing installation and scaffold management.
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently.
Strong communication and leadership skills to motivate and manage site teams.
Ability to identify and mitigate risks proactively.
Competent in the use of site management software and Microsoft Office applications.
Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
Working Conditions
The role is based on site at the Isle of Wight, requiring regular presence on the construction site.
Full-time hours with occasional extended hours to meet project deadlines.
Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all times on site.
Physical activity including walking, climbing scaffolds and inspecting work areas.
