How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Role Overview

    We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major rail/infrastructure project in London.

    The successful candidate will have strong NEC contract and subcontract management experience, ideally gained within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor environment. You will be responsible for the commercial management of subcontracts from initial procurement and placement through to final account, while supporting the wider project team with cost control, forecasting, risk and change management.

    This is a hands-on senior commercial role requiring strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work closely with project management, engineering, procurement and client/commercial teams.

    Main Responsibilities

    Lead and develop the efficient and effective management and issue of accurate, timely and contract-compliant commercial documentation.
    Support the procurement team throughout tender processes, including preparation of subcontract documentation.
    Manage subcontracts from initial placement of order through to final account.
    Prepare, review and complete subcontract documentation.
    Prepare, submit and agree interim applications for payment.
    Prepare, negotiate and agree final accounts with subcontractors.
    Work closely with project management and engineering teams and liaise effectively with the Employer's commercial team and client representatives.
    Demonstrate and maintain strong commercial and technical knowledge, working closely with technical teams to develop appropriate techniques and solutions for the project.
    Assist with building and developing the commercial team, including supporting personal development plans, objectives and targets for direct reports.
    Monitor individual and team performance and provide appropriate support and guidance.
    Maintain continuous professional development and keep knowledge of relevant commercial, contractual and industry practices up to date.
    Produce accurate monthly cost reports, forecasts and contract budget reports.
    Maintain effective and accurate cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
    Identify contractual and commercial risks and opportunities and ensure these are communicated to the Project and Commercial Managers.
    Ensure risk registers and contingency allowances are accurately maintained and regularly reviewed.
    Assist with the preparation of periodic progress valuations and claims for work completed.
    Identify and provide appropriate and timely information to support the project change-control process.
    Ensure effective and consistent implementation of the applicable commercial policies and procedures.
    Understand and implement the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, processes and statutory requirements as they relate to the project and commercial function.

    Essential Experience & Qualifications

    Relevant degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent relevant industry experience.
    Minimum 3 years' experience at Senior Quantity Surveyor level or equivalent.
    Strong and demonstrable NEC contract experience
    Previous experience working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor
    Proven experience managing subcontracts from procurement through to final account.
    Experience within rail, civil engineering or major infrastructure projects.
    Strong experience in cost control, forecasting, commercial reporting and change management.
    Excellent subcontract management and negotiation skills.
    Strong understanding of contractual and commercial risk.
    MCInstCES or MRICS qualification desirable.
    Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
    Experience using Power BI is desirable.
