An exciting opportunity has arisen at our Progress Rail Locomotive Depot in Longport for an experienced Locomotive Workshop Team Leader. Progress Rail Locomotive is a subsidiary of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, specialized in manufacturing, maintaining and overhauling diesel-electric locomotives across the world. As a loco workshop team leader, you will be instrumental in the successful supervision of the team to ensure all production deadlines are met to relevant standards.

The role of Team Leader:

Coach, mentor and lead a team, encouraging a high level of performance in self and others, undertaking performance management where needed
Recruit & train all personnel including contractors
Participate in the company appraisal process and employee relations meetings.
Plan and distribute workload in the team to ensure deadlines are met
Resource planning - annual leave, training, sickness absence
Drive a culture of continuous improvement
Provide technical expertise on all welding matters as required in line with daily activities as well as specific projects
Take ownership of workshop housekeeping & daily 5S tasks, challenging the team where standards fall below expected levels
Develop the workshop records and procedures in line with the British Standard.
Carry out inspections, spot checks, final inspections to ensure standards are maintained
Provide quality shift handover information to ensure minimal disruption
Work closely with the Production and Depot Managers to ensure maximum operational effectiveness and minimum downtime for area of responsibility
Maintain at all times high levels of professionalism and work ethics

Leadership experience working in a Heavy Maintenance facility
Clear leadership skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Strong track record of being a team player & encouraging a high level of performance in self and others
IOSH Managing safely or equivalent would be a plus
