How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining production performance, reducing machinery downtime and contributing to continuous improvement across the site.

    Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production machinery, plant and site facilities.

Respond quickly and effectively to mechanical breakdowns, diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs.

Identify recurring mechanical issues and recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability.

Complete routine inspections and condition checks on machinery and plant.

Support installation, modification and commissioning of mechanical equipment.

Work safely and efficiently while minimising production downtime.

Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete relevant engineering documentation.

Assist with the planning and prioritisation of maintenance activities.

Work closely with production and engineering colleagues to ensure equipment is maintained to a high standard.

Assist with contractor management and ensure work is completed safely and to the required standard.

Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company procedures, health & safety requirements and relevant legislation.

Contribute to continuous improvement projects across the site.

Provide support to the wider engineering team where required.

    The Ideal Candidate

To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

    * A recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification, such as NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Maintenance.

    * A recognised apprenticeship or equivalent practical engineering training.

    * HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification would be advantageous.

    * Significant experience working as a mechanical maintenance engineer within a manufacturing, food production or industrial environment.

    * Strong practical knowledge of mechanical systems, machinery and production equipment.

    * Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, drives and mechanical power transmission systems.

    * Experience carrying out both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs.

    * A good understanding of engineering health & safety requirements, including safe isolation and permit-to-work procedures.

    * Good fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.

    * Strong organisational and time-management skills.

    * Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a busy engineering team.

    * A proactive approach to identifying problems and improving equipment reliability.

    * Good computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and maintenance management systems.

You will need to be self-motivated, reliable and resilient, with the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
