How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Pharmacist Independent Prescriber
    Permanent, full-time (42.5 hours). Part-time considered.
Visa sponsorship available for suitable candidates (Skilled Worker route).

    THE OPPORTUNITY

Dears Pharmacy is a 26-branch Scottish community pharmacy group operating across Fife, Lothian, Glasgow and Tayside. We are recruiting a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber to take a leading clinical role in one of our branches and to help expand the prescribing services we deliver to our communities.

This is not a dispensary-bound role. Our central automated dispensing hub at Lochgelly handles a substantial proportion of repeat volume, and our hub-and-spoke model is designed specifically to release pharmacist time from the bench and into the consultation room. If you have completed your independent prescribing qualification and want to actually use it, this is a role built around that.

    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

    - Delivering NHS Pharmacy First Scotland and Pharmacy First Plus consultations, prescribing within your scope of practice
    - Leading clinical service delivery in your branch, supported by a trained technician and support team
    - Running and developing our private clinical services, including:
    - Dears Ear: ear health assessment and microsuction using Tympahealth digital otoscopy, with prescribing intervention where clinically indicated
    - Heart Check Scotland: point-of-care lipid testing and cardiovascular risk assessment using ASSIGN v2.0, with onward management and referral
    - Menopause care: assessment and treatment in line with NICE NG23
    - Weight management: structured, in-branch oral GLP-1 services with full clinical review and follow-up
    - Managing patients under serial prescribing and supporting chronic medication service reviews
    - Working alongside local GP practices and the wider primary care team on shared caseloads and referrals
    - Contributing to clinical governance: SOP development, audit, significant event review and peer discussion
    - Supporting and mentoring pre-registration trainees, foundation pharmacists and colleagues working towards their own prescribing qualification

    WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

    Essential:
    - MPharm or equivalent, with current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
    - Annotation as an Independent Prescriber on the GPhC register
    - A defined scope of practice you are confident working within, and the judgement to know its edges
    - Sound clinical reasoning, consultation and documentation skills
    - Commitment to person-centred care and to the standards expected of a professional working in community pharmacy
    - Right to work in the UK, or eligibility for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route

    Desirable:
    - Experience of NHS Scotland community pharmacy contractual services
    - Experience delivering private clinical services or setting up a new service from scratch
    - Ear microsuction training, or willingness to be trained
    - Interest in a specific clinical area (cardiovascular, women's health, respiratory, travel health) that we can help you build a service around

    WHAT WE OFFER

    - Competitive salary reviewed annually, with a performance-related bonus scheme
    - Protected consultation time and a dispensing model designed to give you it
    - Funded training and CPD, including microsuction, PocDoc and service-specific clinical training
    - Full indemnity cover and GPhC fees paid
    - Genuine scope to design and lead new clinical services across a 26-branch group
    - A clear route into senior clinical and management roles as the group's prescribing offer grows
    - Company pension scheme
    - Staff discount and Dears Plus membership benefits
    - Supportive clinical leadership: our Pharmacy Director is herself an independent prescriber, and prescribing sits at the centre of our strategy rather than at the edge of it
